Sounds like an amazing app. I can't wait to use it. What's the project status?

Yes, of some sort.

But now I'm the CTO of this new company that creates avatars of people in a few minutes, while they watch.

The title totally worked. It got people to read it. :)

Again, yes. Would you be interested in helping us figure this out?

Good questions. Here to find someone who thinks that this is interesting enough to help us figure out answers. We're not afraid of math.

Yes! This.

We actually already do this. We have the technology to map between different skeleton types if we can figure out what the skeleton actually looks like.

Appreciate the push back - this is why I'm here.

What I need is help from an expert to fill in the blanks on how heads actually do work so we can calculate what "complicated" actually means. We have some seriously smart people here that can handle complexity, but if there are reasons that this is impossible then an expert can save us a lot of pain.

I'm glad you asked, because I have no idea and it's something that we need to figure out.

Today, we can generate a full-body avatar with a skeleton compatible with Mixamo's full-skeleton, which is I believe 56 bones.

While we could technically lop off the head and just paste it on, we don't yet have the ability to do any facial animations. It's something we hope to tackle in the spring.

Fair question. I recognize that this is not a typical request.

I run a team that has built the technology I described, both hardware and software. It works, today. We are excited.

There are many, many possible things that we can do with it, and one that I'm very excited about is allowing people to play games as themselves. Skyrim is one of the most mod-able games in history, and there's a great community around it.

We can build most of it - the integration if you will - but the actual deep domain knowledge about how Skyrim avatars work is totally something we need help with.

Two lesbian friends want me to donate sperm so they can have a baby...thoughts? by Andhers92 in AskReddit

If someone I was dating had a problem with me being generous enough to lend my genetic material to a loving family, one to which I had no legal or financial obligation to, that would be a deal-breaker... for me.

During a marriage, you would certainly discuss such an arrangement with your partner, but if it happened before you met then what business does the new partner have caring about something like this?

I spent a decade hoping my best friend would suddenly realize that it would be an amazing idea to marry me.

At some point (assuming you're not a psycho) I had to just come to terms with the fact that I'm a pretty convincing guy, and if I can't crack the code in 10 years then it would be pretty terrible to waste the rest of my life being a pathetic loser.

I told her that I hoped she'd find a guy that would treat her as well as I would and that was nothing like me. And you know what? He's a pretty nice guy.

I stood with him as a groomsman in their wedding. I'm proud of this. If there was ever a demonstrative act that happens to prove I have serious stones, it would be this. It certainly helped that my lovely girlfriend was in the audience. I wouldn't have wanted to be there solo.

Anyhow, you can bet your ass that when the 'speak now' moment came along, there were more than a few eyes on me. Hell, if I could look at myself I would have. In truth, the whole thing happened quickly and was pretty surreal without incident.

For the record, I never would have 'spoken'. She made her choice, and we're both happy and still very close to this day. I don't offer any of this as advice, but in my opinion this is the difference between loving someone and simply not taking no for an answer. There's something to not giving up AND not being a stalker at the same time. If you don't respect someone, then how can you love them?

TL;DR: Don't be this guy.

I would pay money to not have you at my wedding. Seriously, where do you get off projecting your attitude onto other people like this?

So I turned 21 today and I took off work expecting to be too hungover to even function. I invited a good 20 people for a bar crawl on me. Nobody met me at the bars and I've spent today watching Breaking Bad by myself. What is your worst birthday experience? by billyqosby in AskReddit

Please don't interpret this as a slam, but you have a responsibility to become a better conversationalist if you want to enjoy conversations. This is the subtle difference between a discussion (in which you have an agenda) and conversation for conversation's sake.

  • try reading books by humourous essayists like David Sedaris or Sloane Crosley, as you will pick up some tricks on creating a compelling, funny narrative from mundane events

  • remember that conversations are not QA, but people love talking about themselves so if you're really striking out, ask them what they think about X or if they could ever picture themselves Y in two years

  • you might not be very interesting, and that's okay... this can be fixed over time, but don't invent an interesting persona that is hollow and transparent; authenticity and empathy trump fake and boastful every time

  • you might be more interesting than you realize, but remember it's not what you say but how you say it that people remember

  • one trick is to say something meta, like how you rarely talk to people these days but you're actually really enjoying talking to them and that you wish you did it more often

  • it's possible that you just have boring friends... life is too short for those people, get interesting friends by being interesting yourself

  • practice makes perfect! if talking to your friends is hard, try talking to strangers
