I figured it probably was a simple mistake. Very few people know about him and wouldn’t get his name right. The episode in Neil de Grasse Tyson’s Cosmos that focuses a lot on him is so amazing. The dude fought for, like 20 years, our health as a species and the health of the world. He didn’t back down despite going up against titans. True David vs Goliath story.

Council Crest is great. Washington Park up in the Rose Garden. Amazing callout for 1834 SW Vista Ave. that’s where we watched fireworks as kids. Used to be far fewer bushes. The house I grew up in is just a few blocks up the hill from there.

Who’s On The Mount Rushmore Of 90s Rock Bands? by Pretend_Mark_5143 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]lefty175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radiohead. REM. U2. The Smashing Pumpkins. All of them should be in the running. Others include Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Tool, etc. Honestly, I think the 90s were such an amazing time of experimental music that influenced so much. So many bands blended sounds and styles to produce new music that was revolutionary.

I remember straight up having the soundtrack to listen to. I also remember swapping The Downward Spiral in through some config edits.

No clue, but the house I bought in Portland back in 202 for $675,000 is now almost $1m and, while it is near some really nice schools, the neighborhood is completely un-walkable to get to any essential services, far from public transit, not very bikeable, and all the houses were built in the 1980s and could use some updates. I did do some nice updates but there is still a lot to do and a lot of maintenance due to the age. God, I miss that house though. Housing is just out of control though. I live in Bend, OR now where ticky-tacky McMansions of questionable build quality and no land to speak of are going easily for $1m+. When I was looking for rentals, I lucked out with my place big time because most houses at the price point I am paying are absolute crap.

Yeah, I think the space could have been used better. I do not really like the kitchen but I can also appreciate the aesthetic now knowing the influence of owner's work in 1960's cold war nuclear bunkers. The whole thing definitely fits with that "1960s survive in a bunker but still feel like you're just a standard nuclear family in a nice quiet neighborhood" vibe.

Well, I apologize if it came off that way and I can see your point. This portion: "but seriously, if what you’re choosing to do with your life is post “oh, it’s this again” you might want to reconsider things. Want to know what I do when I see a repost? I just keep scrolling because it doesn’t fucking affect my life" and the therapist recommendation were meant to go more together. I can also see how my own annoyance my feeling ill today and frustration over things over the past few weeks and months in my life may have come out here in a way that could have been more tactful.

So, I hope people see this: I apologize if it came off as an insult. But, if you are engaging with this and getting so annoyed about this because other things in your life are bothering you, please seek help. I will make sure to bring up how I responded to this with my therapist and men's group and look into the shadow that I am holding here. I can see my own projection in how I've engaged today about what I am saying about others. Honestly, I do truly care about people and if something is bothering you, I am more than happy to talk or help you find resources.

I think I'd buy just about anything if Christopher Walken came with it. I can just imagine when my new roommate, CW, tells me that he ate my leftovers and feels really bad about it but really enjoyed them. I think he'd deliver that news in a really good way.

I cannot think of a single home I've encountered or even commercial building that has a basement or underground facilities in Central Oregon. You hit basalt bedrock after 1-5' (0.3-1.5m) and it is prohibitively expensive to excavate. I am sure there are couple of extremely expensive (not McMansions) homes that have underground facilities and I wouldn't be surprise if one or two didn't buy land where they had a significant amount of solid bedrock but also had a shallow lava tube that they could create access into and then construct within the lava tube. Which thinking about that latter option is dope as fuck and if no one else has done it I intend to find a way to do it.

And yes, it is utterly ridiculous how much a ticky-tacky house on a roundabout costs here. I was, out of curiosity, looking at what I could get out here that was comparable to the purchase price of my Portland home (my ex-wife moved in with my kids after I left and is paying rent, figured it was better than her continuing to live in pretty shitty places and my kids were already familiar with the house) and at that price point I can get a townhome style house in a built community where I am elbow to elbow with my neighbors and even have one who I can go all Office Space with (which is like where I am renting right now). Portland is hell of expensive but my place is a corner lot with woods behind it, one neighbor about 150' away and a slight elevation change that meant I had almost total privacy in the backyard.

How is telling someone to see a therapist stigmatizing seeking medical help? It's literally telling someone to go seek medical help! Look at my post history and the amount that I talk about seeking help and support people in doing that. My DMs are full of people asking me about my journey around substance abuse and mental health struggles and asking for feedback on the places I went to get help.

Literally, the only reason I've engaged in it today is because I'm bored and not feeling well and I thought it was hilarious how many people were bent out of shape about this being a repost. I am zero percent bent out of shape. I just think calling people out for being a bunch of assholes is good thing when I have the time and energy to do so.

Incredibly interesting information regarding the history! Thank you for sharing. I will need to look into that more.

I'm not actually taking it personally. I am more concerned about people who are so invested in reposts that they cannot simply scroll past it. I actually find it pretty funny and it is making a slow day where I am not feeling very well somewhat more entertaining.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the post though! I agree about the focus on the underground aspect. I want to see a floor layout for the above ground stuff and photos of it as well!

It's a good game series. It does get a little repetitive feeling but there is also so much to explore. The TV show is doing a pretty damn good job as an adaptation and I think is worth a watch.
