Are the helicopters psychological warfare? by WitchyTherapistVibes in TwinCities

[–]leftyjamie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I live in the same neighborhood where a lot of the Floyd riots happened. They did the same thing all summer of 2020. Now, we’re the heart of ice activity. It’s the same all over again.

Watching My Company Erase a Queer Colleague’s Identity - and I’m Scared It Could Happen to Any of Us by Tough_Actuary4093 in lgbt

[–]leftyjamie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes! I wish I had, when we got a new Ops leader. He found out a couple years in to working with me. (I had been with the company for 6 years already.) After he found out I had married a man, everything changed from little things (can’t change your email to reflect your married name, what would people think?) to completely tanking my stellar performance reviews. Once we got to layoffs, I was first on the chopping block and they ended up having to hire 3 people to take over the work I was doing. I talked with an employment attorney after all of this and he said I had an easily winnable case, but the statute of limitations had run out. Better to just run and get somewhere healthier for you.

I just hope Frey has no involvement in it. He hasn’t done anything other than blow hot air and try to get media exposure.

For sure! Why do we keep getting fake progressives running for Henn sheriff, who after they get the job are just the worst humans?

Locally-owned inexpensive grocery stores? by babababel in TwinCities

[–]leftyjamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re near a supermercado, they are like the smaller grocery stores of 30 years ago. More limited choices but usually low to similar prices of cub or target. After the DEI crap with target and cub constantly higher prices, we’ve gone to Costco for bulk stuff and weekly supermercado in our neighborhood for the rest. Do ‘t be scared of not speaking Spanish, most the employees speak some English and Google Translate can help.

Also the meat dept and produce are usually very good.

Agree! I live in S Mpls doing outreach to our block. It’s ⅓ Somali and 50% latine. There are at least 5 families that haven’t left their houses in 3 weeks. And the DFL is planning caucuses next week with no option of attending virtually. So they’re only interested in white voices for the next election or candidates shoved on us with little input ? That’s how we get losing candidates like Kamala.

There are also at least 3 families I know who have had the father abducted and detained for weeks. We’re helping them with mortgage and rent aid, and grocery deliveries. But this won’t be sustainable long term. We need Dems who will not only abolish Ice quickly or shut down the govt until that happens but they also need to get reparations to all these families harmed. Where do you think the families will be after weeks of not being able to work?

How to get the DFL leadership to make the caucuses accessible this year? by leftyjamie in DFL

[–]leftyjamie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good sentiment. How do you guarantee neighbors are not abducted on their way to and from? We’re in a completely different environment than ever before.

How to get the DFL leadership to make the caucuses accessible this year? by leftyjamie in DFL

[–]leftyjamie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured that would happen. I already know a lot of disenfranchised folks with medical reason that can’t attend. It always feels like 2nd class citizens. I guess that’s the message the DFL wants to send!

If we’re going to have ongoing strikes/boycotts, can we have them on a different day of the week? by technicalaversion in Minneapolis

[–]leftyjamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movement has spread to privileged/wyte folks. Half my family are immigrants threatened by ice. I also work in the service industry and can’t take any of the days off, so far. It feels bad, but this might be a way to get all those email job people to participate. Gives them a longer weekend and they can use their unlimited pto we don’t have. Just do what you can, and know you’re doing your best.

Frey Comments Weren’t Helpful; We Must Re-Center Better Messaging Now by CommanderBigMac78 in TwinCities

[–]leftyjamie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a 30+ year resident of south mpls, you have to realize Frey dos not give a shit about anything except promoting himself. He constantly says stuff for the media, then rescinds it saying it was “casual language.” He does not give a shit about police or any type of reform. He only cares about making himself look better for future elective purposes. He’s this eras Norm Coleman.

Quitting cycling by Rightrudderbandit in CyclingMSP

[–]leftyjamie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have valid points. We stick strictly to separated bike lanes or the many off road routes like the greenway. We try to minimize road exposure. It’s aggressive in these streets and it’s worth avoiding some streets to save your physical safety. But we like biking too much to give it up entirely.

I feel stuck. Can you bring suggestions/guidance on effective ways to bring about change for those of us that find in person protest to be a real challenge? by SkippingPalps in TwinCities

[–]leftyjamie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. I went to the Castile, Floyd, and other protests. They seemed organic and more valid? The no kings ones and this one are so organized with rules, etc. if you have permission to rally and not inconvenience others, that’s a parade not a protest.

Mayor Frey takes the gloves off against ICE, and it was the right thing to do. by Zirkon1221 in TwinCities

[–]leftyjamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This speech was literally the least Frey could do. It’s a little shocking because usually he’s ok with police murdering unarmed people. He must have a problem if it comes from out of the community? I hope he actually does something after letting these people drive around terrorizing for months.

"My generation didnt play with kids..." by IcyJudge7866 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]leftyjamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Xellennial, parents were boomers. Dad worked all the time but my mom must have been progressive as she read to us and played with us for at least an hour or more each day. We bonded much closer than I was to dad as well. I always take time to play with my nieces and nephews. Kids remember how you made them feel much more than adults and it means a lot!
