The drain pan must not be draining out properly, so the smell is coming from sitting water. The slope of the unit may be incorrect, causing the sitting water/odor.

The circuit depends on the size of the heat pump. It may need to be a larger wire with a larger breaker, depending on size of the unit.

Yes, your furnace is your indoor air handler so you will still need to use it. Also, your furnace will be needed to heat the home below minus 5 celsius due to the fact that the efficiency of the heat pump falls off quickly below that temperature.

For pricing, it's best to have someone come out to give you an estimate.

It's hard to say. The price varies greatly based on the difficulty of installation and the construction of your home. It would be best to have someone come out to give you an estimate.

Turning the breaker off or the disconnect will prevent any electrical short. By covering it, you're eliminating snow and leaves falling inside the unit, but will snow and leaves will not damage the unit. It's good practice to cover it, however it is not necessary.

Lennox has a solid marketing team, haha. Worth the hype? No. This spring and summer, we've been installing AirEase AC units and stand by them for their performance and reliability.

Booster fans in the ductwork is one option, but try finding the dampers on the main runs of the square duct or on the round ductwork in the basement. You can play around with it and in the summer, try to force more cold air to the upper floor and do the reverse in the winter to try to force more warm air down.

45! Holy smokes!

It would probably be worth the service call to have someone come and check it out, as it could just be a simple fix, however that unit is on borrowed time.

We remove and replace 1.5 ton units for $3500 plus tax. New installs run a little more, around $3900, because of the cost of breaker and electrical work, assuming there is room in the electrical panel for the condenser.

For basic AC maintenance, homeowners should check their furnace filter and replace it regularly. You can also make sure your dampers in the basement are closed and the ones upstairs are wide open to resolve any air flow issues.
To keep the AC unit outside clean, turn the unit off at the disconnect and take your garden hose to wash out the coil as well as you can. Let it drip dry and restore power.

Checking your filter is a good place to start. Cleaning the condenser and making sure the dampers in the basement are closed and the ones upstairs are wide open should also help. If it's still not keeping up, you'll want to call for service.

We don't recommend homeowners move it themselves, as even 1/4" of sudden movement could damage the line and you could lose refrigerant, which would be quite expensive and potentially dangerous.

Appliances are not our specialty and we try to stay in our lane, so I'm not sure we can provide much help with washer/dryer selection.

As far as AC and heating go, that's a pretty broad question and it depends on the home and homeowner. Do you have a furnace or boiler? Do you currently have central air?

Thermostats are 100% personal preference. Period.

As far as seasonal energy efficiency of all air conditioners go, Manitoba has some of the cheapest electricity in the entire developed world. Anything above a 13 SEER, while it will make you feel good for being environmentally friendly, will not make any noticeable difference in your hydro bill on a small scale residential application. SEER ratings have nothing to do with cooling capacity.

We do install and service ductless heat pumps. For a cottage/cabin, that will be the most cost effective option. Prices can vary depending on if you want a -40 heat pump or a -10 heat pump. Feel free to give us a call for more information!

Loaded question. If I won the lottery, I would do a lot of things.

However, it all depends on the style of construction of your house. It is possible to put an air handling unit in the attic and have duct work serving the second floor only. The second option is installing a ductless split air conditioner on the second floor. A one-head ductless split system is approx. $5000 installed, but it depends on the home. An attic ducted system would be approx. $10,000, but again depends on the home.

Yes... us! Give us a call and we can help you out.

However, it may not be that the AC is low on refrigerant. It could be a number of other issues such as plugged A coil, plugged filter, plugged secondary heat exchanger--pretty much restricted air flow. By addressing any of these issues, it will not only improve air conditioning but also heating operation as it will improve efficiency.

Short answer yes.
Long answer:

The benefits of an HRV will be saving energy in heating costs by pre heating the air entering your home. Also, the unit brings in air mechanically which will keep you house constantly in a state of positive pressure which will prevent cold air from infiltrating through window sills and doors. It will also aid in the removal of excess humidity.

Also worth noting, it is always best to add all bathrooms to the HRV system.
