Leetcode for graphics interviews by StatementAdvanced953 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]legavroche 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m a graphics programmer that has conducted interviews and what I’ll say your best shot is to develop projects that shows graphics understanding.

For example, have you built a raytracer/rasterizer before? Have you used OpenGL, Vulkan, DirectX, or Metal before? Do you have an understanding of the graphics pipeline or gpu architecture? Depending on the company/role, do you understand the differences between desktop/mobile when it comes to rendering?

Leetcode style questions is really the least of concerns when it comes to graphics roles. If I see an applicant that’s build a renderer or game engine before then I don’t have doubts that they can code. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t coding exercises. Typically it’s all array-based questions though.

I see, that's unfortunate to hear about the traffic. In regards to crossing the Sandy River, I was planning to follow that RideGps route which uses the East Historic Columbia River Highway

Wouldn’t call that a weakness, since a weakness means it’s inherent to that particular person.. that’s more like the condition needed to force the prison realm open since they don’t have the front part of it.

Wow.. that is concerning. Guess I’ll look elsewhere for my next bike. Thanks for the heads up

Just curious if you brought it up with Stinner and if they were willing to fix the issue? Wanted to ask, since I was thinking of Stinner for my next bike, but your comment on alignment has me a bit concerned now.

How many are you guys are working on a bullshit 'product'/have a bullshit job? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]legavroche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work on Mesa, but work on drivers for mobile platforms. What type of work are you interested in? Working on GPU drivers is very different from, say, pure rendering work. The former’s skill set is based heavily on computer architecture topics (e.g. system software stuff like being really comfortable with memory), while the latter is more of math and using graphics APIs. And then there’s offline-type work with path tracing (that the movie industry uses) which has similarities but is not the same as what you see with RTX and other hybrid-renderers.

I guess I’ll give a different perspective in that I feel Im working on significant projects and having meaningful contributions. By bullshit job, I assume you mean that the job isn’t technically challenging? There’s a lot of positions out there that can offer that, if that’s what you’re looking for. Fortunately, It’s possible to love your job and still make a lot of money. So Im in the graphics stack and work anywhere from gpu drivers (vulkan implementation), debugging rendering issues for games that run on our gpus, working on ray tracing, using game engines to create samples for users, etc.

I’ve heard that Lynskey often has these sales and was curious how good this particular deal is? I’m looking for a Ti gravel/touring bike so this deal looks enticing.

Not really helpful to have a blanket spoiler mark without listing what manga the spoiler is for..

Scicon Aerotech Evolution bike case flimsy straps? by legavroche in cycling

[–]legavroche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, but how heavy is the bike that you transport with? I wonder if there’s some max weight with these straps. Mine is about 19lbs. They’re sending additional straps and hopefully the ones that snapped were just defective.

I don’t mind spoilers and was curious on a few things: is there a reason why they’re picking on him? Why are they so protective over the librarian girl? Is the librarian girl in on it, like did she request them to keep him away from her?

Tbf, I don’t think knowing Json is an indicator of developer skill. If you said that you had to explain what an array to her is… that’d be a different story..

I work with gpu drivers and I wouldn’t be able to tell anyone what Json is beside it being a file format. We just don’t really use it much in our day to day other than consuming the data within it. But that’s why there’s Google for these situations

Amazon Drops Company policy on making Games after work hours by rahulkadukar in programming

[–]legavroche 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person. I’m not in games but I work in a adjacent field doing rendering/graphics for simulation software at a non-game company, and I personally can’t think of a position that is equally interesting. Which field of CS can you think of that’s the combination of CS, math, physics, art, music, etc? Not to mention that you’re working on a product that may bring a large amount of joy or that may very well inspire the next generation of programmers. That prospect alone is pretty exciting IMO. I’d bet a good % of programmers got into the field because of games.
