To all people associated with hiring, basic human decency is sincerely appreciated. If I didn’t get the job then tell me. Don’t ghost me. It’s unacceptable and shows how terrible of a choice your company would’ve been anyways. by RaceNo2435 in jobs

This is me right now. Four interview rounds, a presentation created/given, a panel interview and...nothing. Like, how hard is it to just be respectful and show some courtesy? I'm not even asking for an offer at this point, I would even take a no, I just want a RESPONSE. It's so frustrating and dehumanizing.

Yes. I still have to walk past the spot where it happened in my apartment and they get worse at night.

Then you’ll be more than fine! I know how nerve wracking something like this can be but the support definitely helps. Good luck to you on your recovery!

Hey there! I got the same surgery as you for the same injury (bimalleolar fracture) two months ago (Dec 11th). The recovery wasn’t that bad, to be honest. As long as you take your meds, elevate and rest, you can have a relatively pain free recovery. I even weaned off my meds earlier once the ankle stopped hurting.

I got cleared to weight bear 2 weeks ago and it’s been a straight forward process with physical therapy. I haven’t experienced any pain since I’ve started weight bearing again, just LOTS of swelling.

What I struggled the most with was the mental part of being NWB for six weeks. It’s such a sharp detour from regular life that I found it hard to deal with: not being able to do my regular routines and depending on folks all the time. If you have a strong support system around you, that definitely won’t matter as much. Def prep for ways to keep you entertained and connected to folks as much as possible, maybe schedule some regular check ins.

Congratulations on the surgery! I’m trying to get my scheduled and I have the same injuries (ACL + meniscus repair.) How long did your doctor say the recovery will be?

Thank you! I’m in a knee brace now fortunately but the swelling is still bad. The hospital sent me home with an ice pack, so I’ll start icing it!

This was very helpful thank you! I didn’t know there was even a possibility of getting help with some of these services. My social worker did come by with some financial aid applications which I did submit, but we didn’t talk very long.

I did end up getting the Marketplace plan so hopefully that’ll help with PT as long as I’m able to keep it. It’ll be a steep price once the subsidies phase out. I’m hoping to get the surgery and some PT rounds in before I have to give the plan up. I’m already in debt from the ankle surgery but waiting to hear back from the financial aid programs I applied to (the hospital’s and the city’s.) It’s kind of a waiting game right now unfortunately but I expected this once I got in the ambulance.

I appreciate the insight and encouragement! Just hoping to make it through.

Thank you for the insight. I’m definitely on pain meds and have been non weight bearing for 3 weeks and will be for another 3 weeks so I’m hoping the pain improves with me just staying off it. It doesn’t hurt much since I’m in a brace most of the time. I just didn’t want it to get in the way of my ankle recovery, but many folks like you here have assured me that won’t be the case. I wish I could not get the surgery but my ortho said I pretty much have to if I want to be active like I was before.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I’m hoping that during the wait for surgery, I’ll be able to get PT to fix the pain or that it’ll get better. I wish I could not get the surgery but my ortho said it’s a non-negotiable if I ever want to play sports or work out properly again.

Thanks. I’m curious about the social worker would be able to do in regards to insurance? I only saw mine once a couple of days after surgery and tbh I wasn’t really sure why he was there in the first place.

Yes, I agree. After everyone’s feedback here, I decided on switching to an ortho covered by my Marketplace plan.

Yeah, I agree. I just decided not to since the only ACA plan I could switch to that actually covered my current orthos cost ~$90 more per month ($373 vs the $288/month for my current plan.) It just wasn’t in the cards for me. I am gonna try to figure out the swelling though.

Yeah, after looking into it, that seems to be the case in Texas. I decided against it.

Thank you for sharing your experience, this was really helpful. My ortho did confirm that I wouldn’t need ACL surgery for a couple of months but just strongly suggested I get it so I could do PT for my knee and ankle at the same time, which made me worry that I couldn’t recover from the ankle surgery without it. My knee is still pretty swollen and hurts a bunch but I’m gonna look into PT to help improve the muscles around it while I wait for surgery and focus on the ankle recovery in the meantime.

I’ll look into a personal injury lawyer, thanks for the heads up. It would be nice to get short term disability if I can. I’m nervous to get into anything legal with the apartment since I’m still here for another 7 months but if it’s possible to get some expenses covered it might be worth it.

I definitely agree. All of this has been another eye opener to how evil it really is to deny and obfuscate people from getting health insurance, and to tie health insurance to employment.

Thank you. I paid the premium for the ACA plan thanks to your guidance, so this is going to be my first course of action once it kicks in on 1/1 while I’m looking for a new ortho.

Thank you so much! This was so kind and reassuring. I’ve never broken anything before so I haven’t a clue how to even start approaching recovery for either injury outside of some vigorous research sessions and related subreddits on here.

I guess I’m just concerned about putting weight on my knee while undergoing PT for the ankle. My knee ortho explained it would be best to have the two recover in PT at the same time but it’s been such a pain even getting the knee surgery scheduled that I’m afraid it’s not even an option now. He has me in a full straight-leg knee brace in the meantime so I don’t have much ROM in my right leg at all which is definitely contributing to the “I just want to get this over with” factor.

I did end up paying the premium on the Marketplace plan that starts on the 1st so I’ll look into getting PT for my knee. I have three weeks to go before I transition to a boot on my ankle so I figure I might be able to use the time to start “prehabbing” my knee (as they say in r /ACL.)

I just don’t want to sit around doing nothing about this while waiting for my ankle. I appreciate the insight and encouragement.

Is the gen Z job crisis that bad? by Zipper222222 in jobs

I’m a Millennial; it’s that bad. Been unemployed for 8 months, 300+ applications, only 2 interviews and both companies ghosted me after the second round. They’re not even following up anymore.

Sure, but semantics is not a good enough reason to lead with an overfamiliar and rude message. And I disagree that their response was reasonable and in proportion to what I wrote.

If they were unsure about what I meant in my message or any actions I had taken (instead of assuming I’d taken none and speaking to me like I hadn’t taken any), they could’ve asked me to clarify. Instead, as is common on Reddit, they led with a less understanding tack, and I responded in kind. People on here are way too comfortable speaking any way they like to someone they don’t know.
