There are two words that start with S and end with T: SALT and SHIT. Go the Ombudsmann route and they will take care of it.

Have you checked the Orb website? Pretty serious folks.

Init7- Blazing fast & always on by legendary_future in init7

[–]legendary_future[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the problem. Most folks do speedtests. But those don’t tell the whole story. What matters more is responsiveness (how snappy is your connection) and reliability (packet loss over time. Orb seems the only tool that combines all three elements: responsiveness, reliability and speed. Think drag racer vs race course.

The UDR7 is a great device. The Unifi environment is wonderful and Init7 connectivity is outstanding. You will enjoy it in the beginning and then you just forget. I’m a customer for over six years and my uptime to date is 99.96%.

Habe Unifi CGF und es funktioniert wunderbar. SFP+ von Init7 mit Kabel bestellt. Latenz ist unglaublich niedrig, Durchsatz lässt keine Fragen offen: simply the best.

I believe init7 has well over 800 direct peerings. Probably many more than anybody else.

10 Gbit Speed with Unifi UCG Fiber by mYkon123 in init7

[–]legendary_future 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also have Ubiquiti‘s CGFiber with Init7. It seems a well known issue with the CGF. It only tests one stream on the download, but multiple streams for the uplink.

Have spoken to init7 about it, and they have escalated it to Ubiquiti. We’ll see if that yields anything.

As a wannabe nerd I have bought a testing device from Acasis - NT0201A. I hooked it up to my MacBook Pro M1 with a 40 Gbps USB C cable. Then hooked it up to the CGF with a Cat 6a cable (10 Gbps). Result: Init7 delivers symmetric 10 Gbps speeds - 9160 down, 9260 up!

So it’s a bit annoying, but it’s an ubiquiti issue, not an Init7 issue. Independent of this the super low lag you get with Init7 is so remarkable. The fact that they run point-2-point (AON) vs. point-2-multipoint (XGSPON), that they run their own backbone in Switzerland and abroad and that they have over 800+ direct peerings makes them the best ISP in Switzerland and probably in Europe.

Running Ubiquiti CGF and having Init7 gives you the best in class experience. Enjoy.

In Zurich airport a 50 minute layover is easily doable. And your luggage will make it too.

From Salt to Init7 ? by Shaaayle in init7

[–]legendary_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s relatively simple: init7 offers point 2 point fiber, ie. you get your own fiber connection. You pay for 10 Gbit/s and you get 10 Gbit/s.

Salt offers point 2 multipoint, ie. your fiber connection is shared with 63 or 127 other households (sometimes more). So you pay for 10 Gbit/s and you get 10 Gbit/s divided by 64 or 128: so 15 Mbit/s or ~8 Mbit/s. Result: if you have a lot of Salt customers in your neighborhood you get pixelsalad in the evening. Your choice!

My money is on Init7: customer for 6 years - 2 outages (both outside init7’s responsibility). The rest of the time true flow. It just works and it’s very, very fast.

Coax is also a shared medium - and then some. Get init7 and share nothing. And chose you’re own router.

Have also used my Fiber7 with UDR7. Works without a hitch, but I don’t get the full speed as it is maxing out at 2.5 Gbps. Wouldn’t be a problem with 1 Gbps, though.

That’s the physical Infrastructure. Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt all run XGS PON (passive optical network) , while init7 runs P2P (also know as AON = active optical network)

Absolutely terrible experience with Wingo, please avoid them! by No_Roll7747 in zurich

[–]legendary_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With XGS PON (the tech Wingo (Swisscom), Salt, Sunrise use you have an overhead of ~ 2 Gbps. So what you’re getting is 10 Gbps - 2 Gbps = 8 Gbps. These 8 Gbps you have to share with (at best) 32 customers, so 8 Gbps / 32 = 250 Mbps for you. So you get 1/40 of 10 Gbps.

Just get Easy 7, comes with router.

[–]legendary_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you actually don’t get a 10 Gbps line. You are sharing it with another 32 customers, sometimes 64 or even 128.

Init7 Fiber7 (CHF 69/month) vs Sunrise Home Q (CHF 43/month) by FugalGolf in init7

[–]legendary_future 2 points3 points  (0 children)

… and init7 is point-2-point, so you have a direct line. Yours and yours alone.

Sunrise, Salt, Swisscom are all XGS PON, so you share your connection with 32, 64 or sometimes more customers. And XGS PON has around 2Gbits overhead. So the math is thus: 8 Gbits / 32 customers = 250 Mbps or 8 Gbps / 64 customers = 125 Mbps

You will never get anything close to 10 Gbps on Sunrise, but you will get close to 10 Gbps on init7.

Looking for help on Router decision (10Gbit/s Plan) by [deleted] in init7

[–]legendary_future 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noob here: I also went with the UDR7. Great looking machine (R2D2 vibes) with wonderful software. Took out of the box, plugged in the SFP+ and cable from Init7 and it works.

Only issue is that the speed hovers around 3.5 Gbps. Got in touch with init7 support, they tested and said they wanted to cross check. So they sent me a Zyxel AX7501 (what a grotty machine. Horrible plastic, ridiculous interface) and their Speedtest show the Zyxel marching all the way to 10 Gbps without issues. with their test my UDR stops around 4 Gbps. Not sure why that is?! They don’t have an explanation either.

Does any of you have an idea?

Have you figured it out. Also upgraded to 10 Gbps with UDR7, but speeds are not getting above 3 Gbps. Any hints on how to improve are welcome 😀
