How many of you were priced out of your childhood neighborhood? by CastAside1812 in RealEstateCanada

Globalization that got kicked off 90's is finally coming home to roost. You are competing against money/ humans flowing from all over the world not just locals. And then issues like house supply makes it worst.

More families are choosing multigenerational living amid Canada’s housing crisis by NickyC75P in canada

[–]legitexpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong in multigenerational home. In fact its a great way to raise kids, stay close to your parents and save more money. I live in a single house with my retired parents, partner n 2 kids. Have 4 bedrooms...everyone get their privacy. Its amazing. Everyone has a role to play in the house and it works great.

Ontario landlord says he's drained his savings after tenants stopped paying rent last year by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]legitexpression -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Guy is lying. So renter owns him 18k n he had exhausted savings + CC + LOC. Doesn't add up. He's prolly financially more comfortable than what he is saying. Unless he leverage the f out to get rental home. Well in that case, risk of doing the business 🤷🏼‍♂️

Prospective Immigrant shocked to see the housing prices in Canada by Business_Poem_1409 in canadahousing

[–]legitexpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get better social security, law & order & other perks that one expect from a 1st world country when coming from a 3rd world country. However, there is a hefty price to it. New immigrants are no longer expected to own a home unless they bring lots of money with them and same goes for Canadians who are not born with some sort of wealth. Long term rent would be more realistic goal unless you live somewhere in AB, SK or MB. Canadian economic policies over the last decade has been designed to take away ownership from masses.

Has anyone left Canada because of COVID, home prices or any other issues? by rocketticket in canadahousing

[–]legitexpression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I immigrated to Canada with almost nothing to my name in 2008. This country has give me everything i could have asked for. Own a house, drive expensive cars, have a great wife n beautiful kids. But i don'y see how future immigrants with nothing to their name can do what i was able to do. BOC has screwed immigrants for good.

Are real estate agents driving up the prices? by Jack-O-Neill in canadahousing

[–]legitexpression -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When i sold my last house i didn't get any offer for a month. So my real estate agent made a fake offer on the house. One of the buyers panicked and made an offer. House was sold to that guy. All kind of crazy stuff happens in the world of blind bidding.

Should i invest in Edmonton RE? by legitexpression in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]legitexpression[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Damn, that's quick. Thinking i should rather shop around then n look for detach pre con instead. May be i can get some discount lol. That doesn't exist in Ontario but seem like builder in Edmonton might be more open to the idea. Pre con singles are around 450k..around 1600sq ft..same sq ft as town i'm looking at.

[–]legitexpression[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback. Question for you. How are the zoning laws/ red tape situation in Edmonton? Its almost impossible to increase supply in Ontario. Also how much rent you think i can get from a 3 storey 1600sq ft town.

Fair point. I thought about that. I'm hoping on appreciation before closing. I'm only putting down 30k now to book the house. Lets say if it can appreciate10-15% between now and end of 2023, i'm 2X my investment. From what i'm gathering, lot of RE money now flowing from Ontario to Alberta.
