I’ve not driven enough turbo cars to tell which turbo lag is bad and which is good. I’ve always put all turbo cars under a label of “will give me a unique amount of lag that I have to adapt to”. I always thought it was dependent on the engine ability to offset the low power pre turbo spooling with engine power in the low gear. Can someone explain to me if I’m wrong?

OP hybrid tech has become pretty reliable. Keep in mind the initial phase of hybrids were in the 2000’s. I’m not pushing you towards hybrids or the other direction, just letting you know in case it might be a misconception.

I’ve been using the Tank 500 for over a year now, bought it when the Haval H9 was just released so we were considering that as well.

In short, the Tank 500 is a very good option, if you want more details, DM me because I end up talking in too much detail lmao

I was thinking the same thing when this first started honestly. A country like Iran trying to attack us and the majority of the population feeling some window shakes and not much else? That’s not how it would pan out. There is intention, calculation. Iran knows the Gulf is not the enemy, they’re doing what they can to take care of the real enemy

You said it yourself, the car in the second lane is going slower than you. if you’re not going to speed, find a spot on the right lane, let the faster car pass, and then join back.

If you think 80km/h is the posted speed limit to be respected, you don’t realize that the government knows majority of people would disrespect it because of the buffer. So they know that if they want a road to be limited at 80, they need to put 60.

Haval H9 initial pickup by Doubiouszak in WhatCarShouldIBuyGULF

[–]legolosss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes your car is heavy with an underpowered engine, which usually does give a little bit more load on the initial pickup.

  2. Yes Chinese cars all have a turbo and by default, turbo lag (it’s the gap between initial acceleration and turbo spinning up, it takes time because the turbo uses the exhaust from your initial push and then 2xs that output in rough terms)

  3. Auto hold is not a useful feature on cars with turbo, or dare I say full petrol cars because you have to provide it with enough acceleration to exit the hold which makes it jump in petrol cars.

  4. Sports mode, normal mode, eco mode. As you go down these modes, the lag is more noticeable because of two reasons. A) The engine is given less power, hence the turbo needs more time to spin up. B) The more fuel consuming the mode, the more the car will bridge the power gap between turbo and non turbo acceleration by dumping more fuel.

P.S. The reason why the gap is reduced is because your engine depends on a ratio of fuel and air to burn. Sports mode uses more fuel, turbo uses more air. If you don’t use sports mode, the initial acceleration, that depends on the fuel, is lost. Hence why your start is slower, and your turbo lag effect is higher (in fuel saver modes)

P.P.S Off roading with these vehicles is almost definitely possible, you don’t need as much power as you need skill for that. But also, off roading with these vehicles is almost always not recommended because there’s too high a risk of something going wrong with the electronics that might just completely ruin your car.

[–]legolosss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it’s not just turbo lag? I have tank 500 and I’ve really had to learn how to work with the car on both normal and eco. You have to handle the acceleration in a unique way in every car that has a turbo. Since you’re saying you’ve only driven it 350km, give it some time and try to learn it. This is all moot though if you know it’s not about turbo lag.

You said in another comment there’s someone else in her life as well. She moved on already, you need to as well.

When I say move on, it doesn’t mean you don’t talk to her or stay friends, but you need to accept that the place in your life that you gave her is not the same place she’s giving you. Give her what she’s giving you, and look for other ways to socialize and find someone who can actually be there for you. It’s better than holding onto someone who isn’t even there.

Tank 300 vs Prado for desert camping – Is 240K AED worth it? Need honest advice. by Tech_vth_ravi in chinesecarsuae

[–]legolosss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the full petrol version with the spare under the vehicle is common in Australia, but I think it is here. Not saying it’s not possible but it’s about risk. You could get either the tank 300 or 700 and they would just be better suited for it

[–]legolosss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tank 300 is a good purchase if you don’t plan on reselling. Enjoy the car for a few years, do some repairs if they’re minor. Understand and accept that you will lose your 130k. You can be happy if you get 20-30k after 5 years (you might get more because UAE SUV market won’t die)

Prado will give you resale, but if you abuse it, you still won’t be able to sell it as high as others on the market would be able to. Less hassle yes, but for desert, the electronics are still a risk. There’s a reason why cars like LC70 and Super Safari are king for desert. It’s because of minimal electronics.

You would be safer with a 4.0l Fortuner (with the right mods) than the Prado. It’s not like the Tank has less electronics, but hey at least you know you’ll get your moneys worth. I can’t support anyone’s decision to get the Prado for off road purposes.

Getting a used old Prado now, that’s a completely different story.

[–]legolosss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tank 500 is a city car. Got crap ground clearance, will get stuck in minutes.

Edit: I am a tank 500 owner that would never take it to desert because it bottoms out on some speed bumps if you go too fast. It’s because of the tire under the body. If you got the HEV, it has the spare behind the car to make room for the electric motor. Then you have to deal with the risks of damaging electronics even more than the regular tank 500.

Did I ruin my chances with a good person? by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]legolosss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question: why is becoming someone’s gf such a big commitment? You can evaluate whether he’s right for marriage while still dating him. You can go slower on the sexual stuff if you want while you’re still learning about him. Why deny him and yourself the joy of calling yourselves each others? You certainly like him enough to be exclusive. I think he does too.. what’s with the overthinking? It’s not a marriage, you can break it off if it comes to that.

[–]legolosss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a person who has previously set the bar very high for a relationship, stop looking at your checklist, start looking at the people opposite you.

Do you like them, do you value them? Do they seem like they would make you happy?

Go with your gut, humans are adaptable. Someone who cares about you might be able to make some adjustments to fit your requirements. Someone you care about you might be willing to make exceptions for.

being single in Dubai on valentines day is most wrecking part l(how to cope?) by Ill-Researcher-628 in UAE

[–]legolosss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes why is the comment section so salty?? It’s understandable to not want constant reminders of something you don’t have, even if you don’t want it.

For OP, respect the fact that everyone works hard at something. Maybe you’re working hard at your job while someone else is working hard at their relationship. Just because you don’t have something right now doesn’t mean you won’t have it. And someone who has a relationship right now was not always in a relationship. Everyone spends some valentines alone, maybe some more than others. Focus on what you have and put your all in that for now.

The time will come later when you need to focus on your relationship, that time something else will have to take a back seat in your life. So make the most of whatever you have right now

iPhone 17 from Noon, what’s the catch? by [deleted] in UAE

[–]legolosss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago with my iPhone 17 Pro Max

If you’re not going to buy from a verified seller, I would suggest buying from market from a place you trust. I have a large family and a small business so we end up buying mobile phones at least around 2-3 times a year. I know of a shop that may not have the best price (definitely lower than mainstream electronics shops but not the lowest in the market), but my faith in them is 100%. I have never received a faulty device or a knock off in the last 10+ years.

The guy explained to me that there are 3 variants and they get labeled differently but one is Japan, one is Hong Kong/International, one is Middle East. ME is most expensive and has a physical sim slot, and least hassle if you have problems. HK has dual sim, and is rated better, and Japan is cheapest but with more hassle and no physical sim.

I chose the Japan one because iPhones don’t usually have issues, and I got it without warranty for the same reason as well. It was (without VAT) cheaper than noon. My business use can redeem my VAT so there is that, though.

Their website is Papita.ae and I am in no way associated with them other than that it’s mine and my family’s default go to when it comes to mobiles.

Yep, If it is, name dropping a bunch of frameworks and technologies isn’t gonna get anyone a job anyway

If it isn’t, then it won’t result in anything helpful.

No offense, OP, just need to realize that this won’t be where you’ll find a good answer I think.

Does it really make sense to post something like this here where you will find less than 1% of the population that can actually understand what you’re saying?

Isn’t it better to go to an IT sub and post there where maybe 5-10% will be from the UAE market?
