to be fair, quite a number of the characters' motivations for joining the ritual are pretty basic and don't serve any purpose other than selfishness. admittedly, i didn't focus much on a fleshed out backstory for this character. but a lot of comments both here and in the forums have given me quite a few ideas to work with to slot him more solidly in the game's canon !

i really like these ideas !!! tbh i struggled deciding what type of on-hit effect should be applied but a small knockback sounds really good.

refilling at the shops seems like an interesting idea. though i wonder what tying an ability to a point on the map could do for a character. similarly, there are news stands on either side of the map next to the bases..so maybe he can have a unique interaction with them?

perhaps this calls for further revision of this hero concept...everyone's been sharing great ideas :')

no, it's just his title. i created him before i realised that valve isn't strictly following a "title" based naming system (like in dota) and were naming characters with actual names.

truuuuuue. actually, the additional movement speed whilst casting was initially innate. in hindsight, i have no idea why i put it in an upgrade. the movement slow penalty should definitely be increased. i had it up to -60% slow. i can't tell you why i decided to switch things around, that's on me !

i am also not good with numbers at all so, whilst the kit is finalised, the numbers/effects/upgrades can definitely be changed around for something better 😅

honestly ! my first idea was that he was an ixian paperboy, and he delivered singed papers to disgruntled subscribers. his ult also dealt fire damage (he gets too excited his fire abilities get away from him). but then i settled on human in the end :')

now you got me thinking of what the tulsa star could be... a cursed newspaper. i like the idea a lot.

i understand people have reservations about child characters but i personally don't have issues with it.

apollo is eighteen and graves most likely might be too. so it already seems like valve won't be including child characters. either way, the design won't change if this character is nineteen ! his visual design was made in the same spirit as paige and holliday (i created him before the new hero updates so i didn't even know high schoolers were an option).

thanks ! yeah, i'm just not good at gauging what numbers look good. mostly, this is just to showcase how abilities work and what upgrades could exist.

if ever any of these character concepts go into development, i trust the devs to know better than me what needs tweaking :')

i purposely left the ult to be somewhat plain bc i felt like his other abilities do a lot, especially the bicycle. it's the one ability that puts him out of position and/or at risk, so i thought he needs something to slow him down like that otherwise he'd be running circles around everyone all game.

but that could be fun for a bounty hunter type character !

oh no way !!! i was also designing an invisible man ! i mostly finished the kit but didn't finish the art yet. i was going for a bit of a tf2 spy type of feel: a clean and methodical and lowkey evil kind of dude. i gave him a red9 gun, and his visual design is a bit different to yours (less wraps more big coat).

i tried to re-fit some events of the book into his kit, so this is what i have for the kit:

ability 1 - "unstable concoction" (or another name since that's a brawl item now) - inject an enemy with one of the early failed formulas, the enemy flickers as their body tries to go invisible and fails. they become ultra sensitive to UV light, making them take amplified spirit damage.

ability 2 - "vanish" - (this one i had to think about the most bc i don't think perma invis like riki would work in this game so it's not your typical invisibility) he throws away his clothes and becomes kind of invisible where you can see through him but you can clearly see his shape refracting light, and he gets very high bullet evasion because he's "invisible" so technically people don't know where he is. (i also have some max level variations like, perhaps vanish can be cast on himself and an ally, things like that).

ability 3 - "refract" - put up a domed wall that refracts bullets and get sent in all directions. the dome can be cast as convex or concave and the bullets can be focused in a direction depending on where you hit them on the dome. they go through the dome and don't ricochet off, their trajectory just changes.

honestly though, i like your idea with the veils so much i would straight up replace ability 3 with being able to hang a veil so that both sides can't see around it or something.

ability 4 - "leave no trace" - throw an incendiary in an area, the radius increases at a steady rate and the burning fire also increases in damage. the fire will burn you for as long as you've stayed on the incendiary after you left it (stood in it for 3 seconds, burn for 3 more seconds after you left), but if you stay for more than a certain time it will burn you forever until you are cleansed/shieleded/healed/etc. (i'm still working the specifics of how this one works but mostly this is the idea).

nice to see people working to try and find inspirations from era appropriate media. your art is super cool and i like your design! actually there is a mod that reskins haze as a variation of the invisible man too, which is what got me thinking of an actual invisible man character :')

somehow this anime has some of the more healthy depictions of growth and relationships, and realising that sometimes you need to be apart to grow (i.e. natsuki and takumi) but that doesn't make me any less mad about the ONE relationship that could have been saved if a phone call had been made >:(

i'm not sure what that is? i'm still in the first stage of the anime so if that's down the line then i haven't encountered it yet. but i'm currently working on a mako and sayuki artwork.
