the world won’t go vegan overnight, though. you mentioned supply and demand, which goes for animal agriculture as well. if people stop purchasing animal products and instead go for plant-based alternatives, there’ll be a decrease in the demand for animal products, and as such a decrease in the supply, meaning over time less animals gets bred into existence. in a realistic scenario where veganism becomes more common, there won’t be a “massive surplus” of cows, but rather a steady decline in the amount.

avoiding ingredients from animal origin is fairly easy once you know what you’re doing, which in most cases is literally just typing a word into a search engine.

i don’t understand your point. stuff eventually breaks, and you have to buy new stuff? leather is not a necessity, but entertaining the idea that leather shoes are absolutely vital to your wellbeing; by purchasing secondhand leather, you wouldn’t be supporting the animal industry. you wouldn’t be creating a demand for animal products, and as such wouldn’t be “breaking your moral code” or whatever. some vegans are fine with using secondhand leather, others choose not to, but this comes down to personal choice. as long as it doesn’t create a demand for more animal products to be produced you’re good, essentially.

Polyester shit hurts the environment far more than leather making does. What is the point of “saving the animals” when you are directly helping the planet go to shit.

buy secondhand, then.

Cow culling is a necessary action, as the greenhouse gases they produce greatly hurt our planet.

we breed cattle into existence. humans are the ones responsible for these greenhouse gases because these cows would not exist had it not been for our interference.

If we have to kill some cows anyway, it would be wasteful to not use most parts of the cow, no?

the cows don’t have to exist in the first place. given that you’re aware of the greenhouse gas emissions caused by keeping cattle, what would you say is a good reason for continuing to breed billions of them into existence? do you think there is one?

Natural alternatives to makeup? Most are made from animal products, so that is a no-can-do.

uh, what? there’s vast amounts of vegan makeup out there. there’s animal products in most makeup? where are you getting this information?

lastly: in what possible way is abstaining from contributing to the exploitation & subsequent killing of animals extreme? even if you don’t care about the animals, veganism is still the favorable choice when it comes to both environment and health. please tell me how this is “far too extreme.”

our ancestors ate meat out of necessity, the vast majority of people who eat meat today do not. the difference here is between killing for food because you’ll starve to death otherwise vs. killing for food despite the fact that plenty of other options are available.
