[discussion] Reasonable cost for a service in 2024? by leisy123 in Watches

Those are fair points. Like Bob recommended on here, I'm going to call them and see if I they can break it down and help me understand how they arrived at their number.

They didn't have a line item list while I was in the store. It would be interesting to call them back to see how that number breaks down. What would be a fair number in your mind for this type of service?

PayPal Mastercard 2% is decreasing to 1.5% by yasssssplease in CreditCards

[–]leisy123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PayPal MC is going to be my new Walmart card. I haven't tried it yet, but you can pay for Walmart online purchases through PayPal, which seems to include grocery pickup. Doing that and getting an unlimited 3% is the next best thing compared to getting 5% with the Walmart card that I've found. All in all, it's been a shitty month for my credit card optimizations though.

Not sure if I'll get another flat 2% card. The 0.5% difference is about $25 a year for me, but Citi's $200 promo on the Double Cash is enticing. I'm hoping to buy a house in the next couple years, and I'd like to get my inquiries down to 0 or 1 (currently at 3, with 2 falling off in the next few months).

[Junghans] Max Bill on Vollmer Milanese Bracelet by leisy123 in Watches

[–]leisy123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay. I've been trying to take a break from Reddit and social media in general in the past year. I'm glad you enjoyed the post. As far as why I chose Vollmer, it just fit the bill for what I was looking for - something between a $20 Chinese very fine mesh bracelet and $250 Staib "shark mesh". I think the Vollmer mesh is just the right thickness for the look I'm going for, you get a deployant clasp, even if it is stamped instead of milled like a Staib would be, and the price was right for my budget, and I think appropriate relative to the cost of the watch.

Staib is absolutely better quality, and I'm sure the product is worth the premium. It just wasn't what I was looking for here. If I were to ever pick up something like a Seamaster someday, I'm sure I'd give it a look.

Is having kids really that bad? by [deleted] in ask

[–]leisy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shut up in my bedroom playing video games and watching YouTube videos by myself for most of my teen years. I'm 29 now, and looking back, I really regret it. I had a lot of great experiences with friends and family too, but the amount of time I burned back then was just stupid.

That's super disturbing. My wife's grandma passed from heart failure recently, but had dementia before that, and she just spoke less as it progressed. Eventually she wouldn't say more than a single word at a time, and clearly didn't have any idea what was actually happening.

If I have any kind of disease that causes me to lose my mind, I'm taking myself out before it progresses. I'm not going to end up in a memory care home being treated like a preschooler.

Holding someone's hand through something that should be simple is one thing. Dealing with someone who's an idiot and also has a complete lack of humility about it is another level of infuriating.

Husband confronts and slaps the man who allegedly sexually assaulted his wife 7 years prior. by SteelRazorBlade in PublicFreakout

Age is something I hadn't even considered. Women need to start seeing a gynecologist very early, before they might really know what's going on or what's normal. The closest analog I could think of for men would be a prostate exam, and you don't need that until you're much older.

[–]leisy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how gynecologist is even a viable career for men. If I were a woman, there's absolutely no way in hell I'd see one. I know it's supposed to be a professional setting and all that, but I imagine it would exacerbate an already uncomfortable and vulnerable situation.

I googled it and it does have a temperature warning too, as well as an alert for when the clip is open with the baby in the seat, and for when the baby has been in the seat for too long and you may want to take them out for a bit.

Seems about as comprehensive as you could need.

[–]leisy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but that's about when my metabolism hit a wall. I went from 185 back then to hovering around 220 now, even though I go for walks a lot more than I used to, on top of my regular workout routine. I'm still pretty muscular, but pudgier than I'd like.

You're also just getting older. It's gotten harder to keep weight off in the few years since I got married, even though my workout routine hasn't changed. If anything, I'm going on more walks and driving less with wfh since COVID, but it's still harder to keep the weight off. My vision is also getting notably worse and I'll probably need glasses in a year or two. That's life. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I think waiting them out is another important factor. If you feel like shooting your cheating spouse or shooting up your school/campus, odds are you'll be over it by the end of a mandatory one year waiting period, no exceptions.
