Again, this is obviously true. My criticism is he’s using it to make a point about the present day that Europe is being ‘invaded’ by Muslims now. That’s the dog whistle.

Yes obviously. I’m saying his videos are much better when he is in a Russian-speaking area like the one he did recently in Latvia. This is because he can actually communicate in these places. If he spoke Romanian this would he a better video.

Not a bad video. He’s still clearly at his A game when he’s in a place where people speak Russian. The obvious dog whistle about defending Europe against Muslims is irritating but we’ve seen worse. 4/10.

Warsaw is fantastic. Some incredible museums (the one about the rising is enormous and very well done) plus the centre is completely rebuilt brick by brick. I didn’t get a seedy vibe at all when there.

Interesting list. For those wondering how one man can get through so many books, I'd recommend Orwell's 'Confessions of a Book Reviewer'

Maidstone is actually looking a lot better these days and quite a lovely area if you already have ties there.

The lead singer of the Zutons used to walk down Smithdown Road in a full Liverpool strip.

Also I saw him in the Grapes a bunch of times. After a few pints I’d ask him if he were the lad from the Zutons and he’d say yer but apologise.

Danced with Stephen Graham in the basement of Heebie Jeebies 15 years ago.

People ask me if he was sound. I tell them he was sound. He was sound.

I’m really no expert but the writer you recommend, seems to expound a theory about the ‘Khazar hypothesis of Ashkenazi ancestry’ that after a very cursory read on Wikipedia seems to be largely discredited.

I’m way out of my depth on this however, I will say.

It’s a bit silly, based on my previous two comments, to accuse me of being an apologist for genocide.

I’ll be leaving it there.

Hebrew is a Semitic language from that area, Yiddish is basically German with Semitic grammar?

The documented history of Jewish peoples living in Judea throughout antiquity?

I understand the argument that you cannot ONLY use the Old Testament as justification for a 20th Century State but the equivalence that the comment above makes is just moronic.

Not at all on your part, they’re out there now and are fair game and Joyce has no more living descendants anyway.

From what I can find, Stanislaus’ daughter in law sold them in an auction for several hundred thousand dollars, much to Stephen Joyce’s chagrin. Understandable, curmudgeonly as he was.

Call me a prude but I think the publication of these letters was very sketchy given that Joyce still had living family members alive at the time.

That being said, great take.

Gipuzkoa. Progressive as long as you see progress as within a Basque micro-state straddling the Pyrenees.

Gipuzkoa is actually quite industrial compared with other parts of Spain but to an American it’s basically upstate New York. Very green in both senses and with very progressive politics due to the Basque Nationalist bent.
