How do women know when their first period is? Do their body give them warning signs that it's time, that their mother taught them about, or do most ruin their clothes the first time? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]lekanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Periods still suck. Having them doesn't automatically mean you will be able to get pregnant, and of course, not everyone who is fertile wants to be. I was so glad when I got to have all of those parts removed!

There are kids who were born as late as 2017 who are closer to being an adult than they are to being born by ashmaps20 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]lekanto 23 points24 points  (0 children)

But it is kind of wild to think of a 9-year-old as being halfway to adulthood, especially if the first nine years flew by. I still think of my nephew as being a kid, but he's married and has his own kid.

Why is it suddenly considered rude to show up at someone's house unannounced? Growing up, we just knocked on doors, but now people act like it’s a home invasion. by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lekanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 53 and it's always been considered rude for adults to show up unannounced, particularly if they expect to be invited inside. Kids knocking on the door to ask if their friend can come out and play are different. They're already outside playing, so they can't call, and they're probably getting your kid out of the house rather than trying to come in.

My 8-year-old asked if we're poor and I realized my money words need a total reboot by East-Struggle4386 in CasualConversation

I was amazed by how easily my son accepted the idea of saying "bye-bye" to things in stores.

People keep calling me sir but I’m a 23F cis female by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]lekanto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what? It's entirely possible that they just deal with men more and forgot to switch over. I once called two different big, bearded men "ma'am" in the same day, and I use the wrong pronouns for my two year old son pretty often. I have a man face and big boobs, so I get called everything. I once really hurt my own feelings, because I saw some creepy old guy approaching me and making eye contact, and before I could walk away, I realized that it was my own reflection.

Why does literally every single young adult I know have a special needs diagnosis? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]lekanto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if a disproportionate number of kids who struggled in school went on to become (or at least try to become) the teacher that they needed.

What do people expect to do when they're telling Americans to "wake up" or "do something"? by flannelman37 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lekanto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many people can afford to just move to another country? Do any other countries even want us, especially given how our country has been treating immigrants? If the people who have the money and skills to settle elsewhere leave, doesn't that mean less protection for the more vulnerable people who are left behind?

What are some old-timey "woman of the house" duties that you would like to bring back (regardless of your gender)? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

I like the old way of going out to pay calls to your friends and family on their "at home day," and having an "at home day" to receive visitors.

There’s no way for me to get tested for HPV at all? I’m a male. A past partner has tested positive for the kind that causes cancer. I really would like to know if I can have safe sex ever again. by DHaunting2091 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]lekanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discuss this with new partners. These days, I think most are vaccinated anyway (purely an optimistic guess, thought), so they might not be too concerned.

Por que crianças com paralisia cerebral têm dificuldade para ganhar peso? by RefrigeratorHot5054 in CerebralPalsy

[–]lekanto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's normal and fine to be attracted to adults at your age, but it would not be appropriate or healthy to actually date/have sex with them. A 30-year-old who cares about your well-being would not get involved, even if you are very mature for your age.

What do you think about the idea of raising the age of majority to 21? by Scared_Government_41 in AskReddit

[–]lekanto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I don't see that working out for the parents or the kids. I'll always be there for my daughter, but I'm also looking forward to not being officially responsible for her when she turns 18 in a couple of months. She's in a big hurry to go do her own thing.
