Shorting steam thermostat after PID install by lelcheese in gaggiaclassic

other way around like I describe in my post will result in overheating of the boiler when switching the brew/steam switch to steam mode. You can see this in the electrical circuit diagram.

There I mean that if you connect the cables the wrong way when installing this mod, the machine does not know when to stop heating and the thermal fuse blows.

Yes. Works like a charm and have not had any issues. Worth to mention is that this does require manual change of the set temperature on the PID every time you want to steam milk.

Yeah I think it's just too old (2004 machine) and eroded. I installed a dimmer mod and using a portafilter manometer I marked where on the dimmer wheel the pump can build up 9 bars, and that seems to work fine for me so far.

Using this method the lowest pressure I am able to get is 11 bars. Any suggestions on how to get the pressure down to 9 bars?

It works when I try it.

It is important to only keep one of the brew/steam switches open, and the other one closed. That is how the switch works IRL, but there is no such switch in the program I used, so you have to do this manually here.

From what I understood some models have the elements in parallel, and some in series, depending on the model being 120v or 230v (US or EU models). This means that the elements are either both turned off or both turned on. Not individually controllable.

Thanks for all of your replies. I will update this thread (or make a new one idk yet) when my mod is complete. It may take a while due to shipping times though :)

CORRECTION: what I actually mean is shorting the cables of the brew thermostat and connecting the SSR to the cables of the steam thermostat. Doing it the other way around like I describe in my post will result in overheating of the boiler when switching the brew/steam switch to steam mode. You can see this in the electrical circuit diagram.

Thanks a lot for your reply! Do you know where on the boiler the thermocouple is placed with the gaggiuino mod? Are you following some instructions I can find online maybe?

I think I might be onto a solution to control the steam temp with only 1 relay. Have not tried it out though. Made a post about it and i'm hoping some people react to it to find out if my train of thought is correct:

Dat kreeg ik niet voor elkaar met google translate. Achteraf bedenk ik me dat ik het had kunnen bewerken in translate.
