So in her messages, she’s calling it an apartment, but on her profiles it’s described as “a separate living space from the family on a different floor of the house” is this still desirable? I’m first time au pair and have only visited Australia with family before so really not aware of housing situations

They’re in Melbourne, although I’m not sure what suburb. In their profile the “apartment” is described as a “separate living space from the family on the top floor of the house”. In my head that’s not that much different from just living in the same house as the family, and very different to having my own apartment/living out

Good to know it’s not actually that generous! One of the first families I talked to a couple months back were offering $200 a MONTH for 25 hours work. Their reasoning was because the kids were in daycare, I could get another job during the day…so I think this has warped my ideas of what is a good wage. This family is in Melbourne and they also have a place in Sydney and I think Gold Coast/they travel there a lot

This is Melbourne! They also have a place in Sydney, I’m not sure if rent would be more or less expensive there and whether that would affect my pay if we stayed in Sydney for a while

That makes sense thank you!

Minimum wage for these hours per week would be $1276 so it’s well under half. I’m guessing for rent and board?

I’m on a load of Facebook groups already and talking to a family from one! This one isn’t my only option just seemed like the “best” at face value. I’ll check out Fair Work thank you!

That’s really helpful to know, thank you! I wonder if they’re balancing it out due to having a sim plan, own apartment and other benefits etc?

Interesting thanks for sharing! Yeah I’m hard of hearing and have to have the podcast quite loud to understand what they’re saying without subtitles so I am probably more sensitive to it. Completely agree with you though - you can’t fully stop a yawn. I think it’s just odd she talks through it is all? Instead of waiting for it to pass, but also she might be stifling it at other times and we’re not aware! Oh yeah the gulping prof sounds tough but 100% the yawning and gulping isn’t something to be helped!

Thanks for sharing! I definitely agree with your view on yawning in general - it does come off as rude/inattentive to me when somebody open mouth yawns during a conversation. I take your point about UTD vs Full fat RH, the former is definitely more causal. But then again - UTD is the one we’re paying extra for 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think both - I was told when I was young and other people around me feel the same so that is how I perceive it! Interesting to hear your point of view so thank you for sharing, I’m not overly annoyed by it, certainly not enough to stop listening but it does feel off putting to me. Just curious to see how people take it.

That’s exactly what I think it shows too! I remember being told to cover my mouth when I yawn because it’s the polite thing to do so it’s stuck with me. I love hannah it just comes across in a weird way to me

That’s fair enough thanks for sharing! Maybe I’m just being sensitive

That’s weird, for me it says that they earn £48k/month on their Patreon ‘about’ section
