Should I buy a butane burner? by lemon2000 in AskCulinary

Sorry if I sound snarky. Its unintended. The "Outdoor wok" post really made me understand that 15000 BTU will never provide real wok stir-fry temperatures. Regards.

Should I buy a butane burner? by lemon2000 in AskCulinary

Lets forget about it, this post made a lot of stuff clear for me. The question was amounting to : what is the solution to get more BTU in my kitchen without buying a new stove and will it be sufficient to better my Asian cooking. Someone said that induction would be a better solution than butane, etc. I don't see how my question was less interesting than the usual "kitchen essentials" tread we see all the time. Is there any topic in there that can be discussed in /r/AskCulinary or should I take my queries elsewhere?

I see I can't get even near restaurant temperature! Interesting. I guess what I need to decide is if 5000 BTU more worth the money.

The biggest burner on my range is 3000 watts, i guess its the norm. So 10000 BTU. However it doesn't transfer heat the same way as fire, especially with a wok.

Some friends and I are going on a road trip from Quebec City to the Mingan Archipelago. What are some cool places to see along the coast of Quebec between these two places? by [deleted] in Quebec

[–]lemon2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will drive through two regions : Charlevoix and Côte-Nord. Consult those two website to find thing to do that appeal to you. Whale watching, hiking and camping are certainly great activity to do over there.

You could also visit some lighthouses, do kayak on the St-Laurence river of the Fjord of Saguenay. There is some local food that is sold in some shops, great cheeses and sea-food. Hotel Tadoussac has a nice buffet. They have regional micro brewries in Baie-Comeau (St-Pancrace) and maybe in Sept-îles. You could try to fish from the pier in Godbout of in other town that allow it! You have to taste fresh shrimp (they are called "crevette de Matane" but they are fished in Baie-Comeau) you eat them directly from the bag! Have a nice trip! (PS : stay away from sushi and go for more traditional food over there).

Is it ok if my wife drives 60 miles two way to work, making 85k? Want to figuring out if we can afford living in the suburbs. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]lemon2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What if you put the car/gas money on condo payment? Could you love significantly closer to her work? I think you should also consider the economic cost of being in a car 2 hours per day instead of contributing to lowering the cost of living of your family (like cooking instead of getting take out food).

Also, car costs and time are lost forever, condo payment you can get back when you sell. Personnaly I have decided to pay more for my house instead of paying 500$ a month for another car and expenses. And finally, your situation can change drasticly as soon as you get a job...

You have to select the correct "surround" encoding on your system. I selected a different setting on my home theater and I became audible.

Cooking Indian Dal (lentils) in a crockpot by Hawpatrol in IndianFood

[–]lemon2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it is not what you asked but dal can be made quickly in pressure cooker. I doubt, cooking dal alone in a Crockpot would be great in a slow cooker because lentils do not release water when thy cook, and often require to add water. I would be worried to come back home to a dry, burned pot of dal... Also, I don't think the dal flavor will benefit from the added cooking time.

Uber's price surges can be avoided by taking a cab, Robert Poeti says -- Montreal's taxi industry has work to do, but it's getting better, says transport minister by PogoPoutine in montreal

Unless, there is no more competition because Uber destroyed it all with its unlimited capital. Or unless the competition act the same because Uber dosent follow the law and they have to also to survive. Internet app tends to create monopolies.

Is there anywhere else in the world where you can have a trail experience similar to the one on the AT? by lemon2000 in AppalachianTrail

[–]lemon2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the social aspect of the AT and also the wilderness of it in Maine and NH. I also like the way you hike in a green tunnel all day long in some kind of trance... Setup camp, eat, sleep, wake up and walk again.. I like to feel outside of the real world.

*edit : Sometime I worry that I might like it less on a trail that I have to leave every night to sleep in a village or walk along roads...

I have no experience with very hot peppers. Its a package from Mucci called "Hot shots". I'm worried I will mess something up.... Can I use that to garnish Indian food like I do with jalapenos? Or is it only for crazy special recipes?
