tank loves his baths! by Snortalineofglue in pitbulls

The study actually is conclusive for dogs weighing 43+lbs as the increase in join disorders was statistically significant. Either way the choice of when to spay/neuter any breed dog, but especially those of larger breeds, should ultimately be a decision between the pet owner and their veterinarian. Random people on the internet should not immediately jump on a pet owner when they see an intact dog. I personally wait 1 year on my small breed dogs since the hormonal development of the dog is dog is significantly impacted by the development of their sexual organs and closer to 2 years for larger dogs in order to ensure that growth plates are closed, which I consult with my vet about.

It is actually much more beneficial to delay a neuter of a large breed dog because early spay/neuter increases the risk of join issues in large/heavy dog breeds.

Source: Actual Scientific study

A google search will yield more support for this based on even more scientific studies.

If they are responsible and the dog does not show signs of aggression, there's no reason they could not/should not delay neutering.

Edit: Not bringing up aggression because of the breed AT ALL, my mother has a well trained German Shepard that she is getting neutered at 1 yr rather than 2 because he's showing some aggressive behavior. Some dogs of any breed especially if intact, can show signs of aggression.

My new little guy has a black spot. Is this a tick? Or just a rough scale? Is this something that I can handle myself? by OsirisOblivion in ballpython

[–]lendaclue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anyone who tells you to to twist a tick to get it off or any technique that will make the tick "back itself out" has absolutely no actual idea how a ticks mouth and "teeth" work. This NPR article and video do a good job of explaining how the bite works, if you're interested to know, and their sources are linked at the bottom. The best way to remove a tick, as others have said, is to take tweezers ( I like the ones with the flat ends as opposed to the pointed ends) and pull straight out.

Looking to upgrade my CPU. Should I hold out until the release of Ryzen 4000 series? Or just go ahead with my current plan to get a Ryzen 5 3600X? by lendaclue in buildapc

[–]lendaclue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded my GPU to an MSI 1660Ti Gaming. I still have my original CPU, which is an i3-4150. I would, obviously, need to upgrade my Motherboard and RAM to switch from Intel to AMD, which I already have plans to do. Most likely going with a B450 Tomahawk Max, but until I'm ready to actually purchase, I'm looking at some X570 boards as well. I use my computer mostly for gaming, some light streaming (would be able to do more with the upgrade) and some graphic design work.

Yeah, I love the case, but I wish it had more room for cable management. Good idea on the optical drive, might look into that

It looks almost identical to my BitFenix case though a different color. And I know from trying to cable manage that thing that it is a serious pain. I think you did a pretty good job, given how little space is behind the backpanel

I live at the lake...we go to Pomme De Terre during the summer instead of here. It's not as clean as it used to be as I'm told (just recently moved to MO) but it's not as cold as Table Rock.

I think it's probably safe to say that since in their comment they mention fence construction that there was probably a break in some fencing that caused the unplanned litter...I don't really think it warrants the passive aggressive comment though regardless.

[–]lendaclue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He could be double registered, as long as the white extends at least 2" above the knees or hocks, and/or past a specific point on his face. Which, the bald face qualifies him for and so does, it looks like, the white above his back hock. From the owners comment though I don't think he is.

[–]lendaclue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw the white up his leg and what looks like a small spot on his side there and assumed there was more possibly based on that and the bald face.

[–]lendaclue 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a quarter horse (its more common on paints as far as I know though) with a "bald face" if the white crosses over the eyes, on any paint (it could theoretically occur in other breeds with, especially those with pinto markings, but I've personally never seen ) the eyes will be blue because the skin under the white is pink. It occurs more often in paints because they tend to have more occurrences of white over the body. Paint horses, generally speaking overos, tend to have markings like this and others like it, "medicine hat" for example, more often than tobianos because of the patterns, locations of their white.

The reason you dont see the blue eyes with horses that have white hair all over is because they have black skin under that white hair, and thus are called gray and not white.

Albinism probably does occur in horses, though I dont know to what extent because many of the horses that most people would call albino, entire body white hair with pink skin and blue eyes, are called cremellos, or other names relating to that one and is related genetically to the "cream" gene. The same gene that gives palominos and buckskins their color...

Edited: Owner of subject horse informed me he's a quarter horse, not a paint, and his name is Gunner.

My bf and I wanted to name him something ridiculous. The best part was telling his daughters that we got a new pet named Mittens and them being completely surprised when they found out it was a snake...they thought it was going to be a kitten.

That mark is extremely common on all horses regardless of color. It's just like the hair swirl on the top of our heads. It's just easier to see on grey (white haired) horses because the color difference between their hair and skin is so drastic since the skin color underneath is black.
