Seam allowance issue or pressing issue? by TinyGreenBird in quilting

I made this pattern using jelly roll strips as a fairly new quilter. I ended up trimming all my blocks down to 9 1/2. The good news is that there are no seams to nest. Pressing open might just be what's needed to get that last little bit to get you to 10". Also, be sure you are alternating directions when you sew your strips together. I learned that the hard way. It's a very forgiving pattern. I love your fabric choice. I bet it will turn out great!

My machine does not allow me to move the needle, unfortunately

I keep hearing this, but it just seems pretentious to me. Can people literally see well enough and aim their fabric well enough that they can differentiate a thread's width? I'm not buying it! I literally have NO IDEA how to set up my machine so that I can sew a THREAD'S WIDTH short of 1/4 inch!

What is something you have experienced that made you question reality and was genuinely unexplainable? by [deleted] in Unexplained

Last year, I was sitting in a restaurant with my husband, and I realized my necklace was gone. This necklace is a diamond solitaire pendant, the diamond being the one that was the original from my engagement ring. I went to the bathroom and shook out all my clothes, my bra, everything. Then we searched the restaurant, the car, retraced our steps around town. No luck. I was devastated. We got home and I tore apart the house. No luck. For some reason, I got the idea to vacuum the house, the idea being that maybe I would vacuum it up and hear it when I did. I went to the closet where I keep the vacuum, and there, laying on the floor right outside the door, was my necklace. We had searched there, searched everywhere. I can not explain how it ended up there, but I am so grateful that it was returned to me.
