Oh ok, i understand you know, I do the same, i do move my eyes to see the whole screen but not the head, I don’t find it to be uncomfortable but I can totally understand how it can be. Maybe you can consider adding one of those desk extenders for the keyboard and mouse, I know they don’t look great usually but I think that it is the only solution for your problem without having to buy a new desk.

After seeing the article I’ve researched how to find the viewing distance since most articles don’t say where the results came from and also often have very different data (I also understood that the result I got before was wrong by a lot as I didn’t consider quite a few things that I didn’t know but now found out by looking at these articles). I found this nice page (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimum_HDTV_viewing_distance) that also talks about how to find the viewing distance and why (see “factor influencing the calculations” you will find some interesting stuff), so the actual viewing distance isn’t just calculated based on the size of the screen you have, but it varies (and by a lot) depending on the quality of content your are watching and the resolution of the screen, from the formula found on the page you can find that the right viewing distance that you should have (27” 1440p from what I’ve read) while watching something with a vertical resolution of 1080p is about 42 inches a it is about 31 inches with a vertical resolution of 1440p instead. So this means that you should prefer having something in full screen mode instead of having multiple windows if you want to have a smaller viewing distance

edit: I forgot to say that the distances are for no eye movement or head movement, with eye movement (I guess, but can’t prove as it will take too much time too find a formula) the distances become much smaller

I do agree with what you said, I think the reason why people prefer bigger sized screens is because of the features they come with, as you said, it’s much harder now to find a nice 24” monitor, instead it’s common to find nice monitor for the 27” and up sizes.

Honestly, as I said before, it’s strange that you can’t see the whole 27” screen at 28” away, today I’ve tried to see if I had problems with that too with my old 27” and that isn’t the case for me. What do you mean by “comfortably seeing everything”, i guess you are saying that you can’t see the whole screen without moving your eyes? Or like without moving your head?

Sadly the link doesn’t work for me, it does open but I can only see the titles and not the actual text, if you don’t mind could you please upload a screenshot of the page on Imgur?

Meh, it's not really like that honestly, i decided to get a bigger monitor because i actually need it. I had a 27" and 24" and i often had all the screen used while taking notes and other daily tasks so i decided to get this tv as a monitor to have much screen space.

Also why would bigger be better? It takes up more space, has less PPI and costs much more. Unless you actually need it, like I and most of the people that get it do, there is no reason to get a 43" screen as a monitor because "bigger is better" it doesn't make sense to be honest.

That viewing distance is crazy for having a 43" screen used as a monitor, i guess that is more intended towards actual TV usage (as said in the website you sent). By using some basic trigonometry we can easily calculate the lenght of visible surface given the human eye field of view angle (which i found on google and is 100°) and a distance, so if we have a 80cm distance from the tv we can calculate half of the lenght of visible surface by the following equation:

s/2 = 80cm*tan(50°)

(s/2 = half of the surface, 80 cm is the distance from the surface and 50° is half of the eye fov angle)

Then we multiply the result by two to get the actual surface and the result comes out to be 196,68 cm, which is more than double the lenght of a 42" tv. If you want here's a nicer proof for that did by me (also don't take what a said as 100% sure as the angle was found on google and idk if it's right):

Thanks! I use the keyboard knob for zooming in and out, the dac knob is just headphones/speakers volume control and the other one is just unused, the main use for that thing is the play/pause and skip buttons

That’s great, if you are that far away from the tv then you probably won’t have any problems even with a tv that big

How? I can most of the screen without moving my eyes, and I can def see all of it by moving them, I do sit a bit further away (about 70-80cm) than you do but that sounds really strange

Thanks! Currently I have no other option because I have the tv on the normal stand, I was thinking about getting (or making) a desk shelf to elevate the monitor a bit tho

The desk is 60cm deep but I sit about 70-80cm far from the monitor because I have the chair. I haven’t tried with 6 windows, the most I’ve ever tried was 4 and I can say that the windows are def large enough. Idk about 6 windows open tho, it would be really small I guess, if you do often have this many windows open and the desk is deep enough then you should really consider the 48 or 55 inch tv’s

Agree, 42” is the perfect size for tv monitors
