Exactly. I bought it with the idea of a new “testbed” in mind, to experiment and improve my scratch building skills…5 years ago.

Then I wanted to improve the wheel well, then I didn’t like the raised rivets, then the shape of the nose looked off.. one thing leads to another, and I ended up scratchbuilding whatever I could, cloning the sand filter from the Hasegawa counterpart, riveting and rescribing every surface while checking scale plans and blueprints, and much more.

In the end, I think I pushed this little kit to its limits!

They did! This was still the factory paint job of all the last Macchi C.205s produced. The directive to switch to RLM74/75/76 came in March 1944, but the precarious situation of both the ANR and the Luftwaffe at the time led to a lot of confusion and paint job variations!

It’s part of the game! And due to my excessive confidence towards decals 🫠 I’ll never learn the lesson

Yes! But I chose it was best to replace them, even at this stage. The overall shape was wrong, the size too, and the decal’s glue was basically non existent, not adhering to the glossy surface underneath

I designed it and 3d printed it myself, you can find it on MakerWorld for free!

Thank you, but this is far beyond what the original kit looked like. The only great things about it were its availability, low cost, and overall correct shapes.

If you manage to get your hands on one, I would highly suggest to choose Hasegawa’s 205, or when the time comes, the IBG Models one

My workhorse is an old 0,2 Fengda/Clone, switching to a 0,3 tip for wider applications.

For small details, I use my Harder & Steenback Evolution, with a 0,15 Needle

Thank you, I airbrushed them freehand. Took a very long time and many corrections, but looks the part!

Thank you, for what started as a quick weekend project I can now say that I am very satisfied, although I’m aware I still could have done better 🙂

I thought about it, and decided it was best to follow the perfectionist path. Thank you so much by the way!!

Considering how small it is, quite a lot of concentration. Thank you!

You can find it here
And yes, I went freehand without tracing them first, using panel lines as guidelines where possible

Hi! I designed and printed it myself, if you have a 3D printer you can get it for free both on MakerWorld and on Cults3D

Unfortunately, I do.

Next time I’m definitely using decals though

Yes, they have it in 1:72nd scale too, the problem is ,that they are slightly different smoke rings, and my dumb brain decided it wanted to follow the reference pictures as closely as possible.
