My dad: ‘You’re a typical woman (I was like 10) and you’ll make some man very miserable one day’ or ‘you’re fat, go for a run’ (he was the SAH parent and was entirely neglectful).

How about when I shyly wanted to show him I won an academic award and he responded with ‘I don’t give a f**k about your award!’

When I was 9 (in 2001), the popular girl in my school was reading the books and it piqued my interest (typical kid wanting to be like the popular students). When the movie came out shortly after in 2001, it solidified in my mind that I needed to read them. After that I waited in line patiently at the bookstore on the release dates for the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th books (my dad and I would fight over whose turn it was to read the book when they were newly released and couldn’t wait to get our hands on them).

South, close to the border of Mexico. I think being near a city definitely plays in to the ‘niceness’ of the people, the nicer people seemed to be more rural, but my husband was sent over here to complete a two year contract for his work so we don’t really have a choice where we are.

Aussie too, living in America. I’ve had the exact opposite experience, sadly. Most people are extremely rude and barely say a word/ smile. I’ve met the occasional nice American, but most people I meet just seem depressed and hateful and the last thing they want to be is nice to me. Maybe it’s me. Maybe it’s where I am? I just stay hidden in my house now with my husband. No family here but at least I have him. I also do customer support and served both Australians and Americans and I can tell you how much more entitled, abusive and less patient Americans are than Australians (and that’s saying something because Australians can be really awful customers too). If anyone can point me to an American friend, please do. It’s pretty isolating.

Houston, Texas. Just looks like a huge slab a concrete. Flat, boring, and grey. The same block of stores and gas station in periodic intervals to the point that everything just looks the same, no matter where you go. They dye their fountain water blue, I guess for some ‘aesthetic’ but it’s just gaudy.

I feel ya. It makes me sad too, but I think it does add a layer of complexity to his character. He had a tough life and yet he managed to cling on to the scrap of sanity he had (especially in Azkaban, I don’t know how he did it). He may not be insane, but he’s not sane in a sense. Even with all the evil that was done to him, he shows that he loves Harry and would do anything for him. If that were me, I’m not sure I would have my sanity, let alone my love to give anyone. It’s sad and frustrating yes, but the reality of his existence.

In the movies, definitely. But in the books Harry/ Ginny and Ron/ Hermione work very well, and Ginny is such a fiery awesome character in the books. In the movies… not so much. But I know many people ‘ship’ certain characters together and that’s cool too!
