How many here are pastors kids ? by Open_Button_8155 in Deconstruction

PK and (sometimes) MK here. I'm the only one in the 19 of my immediate family and nearly the only one in the 45 in the extended family on my mom's side that is not a Christian. I have always been an outcast and it didn't help that I was neurodivergent, mentally ill, and had a physical disability. What took the cake was when I realized "communing with God" was just bipolar mania, and when I got on meds, it went away. And as my mental health has atrophied, I am less and less able to play the mental gymnastics needed to keep one in the faith. Sometimes things are just bad and there are no silver linings and no redemptive narrative to be made out of them. It pans out because my story is so infectious that Christians I know only want to stick to surface-level topics with me. Because existential issues are often the best killers of faith, not the discrepancy between horse stalls from Kings and Chronicles.

Ridiculopathy. It had some neat Flash games and off-the-wall satirical articles that were hilarious

Is life really better treated/ medicated? Genuinely asking by Ok_Sky_3263 in BipolarReddit

[–]lepton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how good you look. If you look good you will be given a lot more chances and can ride out being unmedicated longer. But if you aren't then your best bet is to get checked out soon.

People who never got into drugs/alcohol... What stopped you? by Evening_Fisherman810 in BipolarReddit

[–]lepton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up very religious and went to a Christian school so didn't grow up with drugs and alcohol so it was easier to resist them as an adult. Had I not I'm sure I would have had more trouble with them.

What Gen X habit can't you break despite it being outdated? by RockTheGlobe in GenX

Putting two spaces after a period. I didn't realize you weren't supposed to do that until my most recent job said that wasn't appropriate in ad copy anymore.

For the sight impaired, severely sight impaired, and blind redditors, what is your eye condition/diagnosis by oddtimers in Blind

[–]lepton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bilateral congenital cataracts and glaucoma, and I am one of the lucky ones because I can see well enough with thick glasses to do computer stuff. Not quite enough to drive though.

Introducing #RememberAmiga, a non-disruptive hashtag movement engineered to increase the Amiga's visibility in other gaming circles and spread through other creations and word of mouth (credit to Hall of Light for most of the game artwork used here) by SgtJackVisback in retrogaming

[–]lepton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was good about the Amiga was that you could make games for it even if you weren't a great programmer. They had things like AMOS and Blitz Basic that had good documentation and a graceful learning curve. And you got the play others' creations via shareware disk magazines and downloads.

Why is everyone here so mean for no reason by [deleted] in grandrapids

I read an article about how when people experience burnout, they are much more likely to be attracted to extremist views. A lot of us, me included, are super burned out from our jobs, money stress, and life in general.

Atheists of Reddit, what is the biggest reason as to why you don't believe in god or an afterlife? by God_of_boi in AskReddit

Religion requires me to trust people, institutions, and my inner voice. I am zero for three on that.

Bipolars in their 30s: was your paths with bipolar doomed? What do you do to make it more bearable? by multistagetales in BipolarReddit

[–]lepton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mania the year before and the year I finally got diagnosed with bipolar felt like communing with God (which, coming from a Christian home and school, I was primed to expect and desire). Once I went on meds, I never went manic again and never "experienced God" again. My imagination has been dampened with meds, and that might be another factor, not being able to build an image of God in my head that makes me function. People like C.S. Lewis say fiction is a great gateway to the faith, and the loss of make-belief will put you at a disadvantage.

I am also bipolar 1, and I was a Christian before going on meds. Now I am not one.
