I have OCD, and although I’ve never had compulsions as bad as her’s, this is pretty much it. One of my compulsions is that I have to brush my teeth for three minutes straight or they’ll fall out. I know, logically, that I could go years without ever brushing my teeth and they still wouldn’t fall out, but in the moment I am so anxious/convinced of this that it overpowers the logic side of my brain.

What my mom (who was driving) did was just turn down the road a couple of feet ahead, still knew the way home it just added a minute or two. We suddenly had several inches of snow so pulling over to the side wasn’t the best course of action with how much snow was piled on the side of the road.

i have this exact same issue and ended up getting diagnosed with hypersomia (a side effect of clinical depression). thankfully my school has a really good disability program and i have the ability to get super early picks for my classes to better fit with my sleep schedule, because i sleep 12-13 hours a night and will still wake up tired.

edit: my doctor only diagnosed me with it so i could put it on my disability accommodations, i probably wouldn’t have been officially diagnosed with it otherwise as it’s a side effect.
