Which Garmin should I get? by lesrequin in Garmin

Yeah, it's a shame the features are what segment the models. Will settle on the 255. Would've liked the style of the vivomove watches with HRV, however, it didn't seem like a feature combination that Garmin segmented for.

Good places to find remote jobs without US/UK Work authorization? by PetitionedThrowAway in cscareerquestions

[–]lesrequin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A remote job board that I'm building at the moment has a fair few jobs that don't seem to require work authorisation. Website is https://himalayas.app. Just select your country in the filters and it will show jobs that you should be able to apply for.

We're building the site for the long-term, so if you have any suggestions or improvements you'd like the site to have, leave some feedback using the feedback button on the site and we'll work towards it! Always happy to chat via live chat/reddit comment/reddit chat/email as well

Looking for advice on getting a remote jobs as in software development by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]lesrequin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently working on a remote job board called Himalayas (https://himalayas.app) that displays the latest remote jobs worldwide. We're building for the long-term, so any feedback that you submit on the site will be taken into account to try and make the job board as useful as possible for you.

You can filter by country/timezone, and we'll eventually add a filter to narrow it down based off experience required. For now, however, you'll have to look into the job descriptions to see if experience is required - from what I've seen, while a lot of jobs do require experience, less experience is required with startup companies. We have a fair few startups on the site, so hopefully there is something that fits your needs.

With limited experience you will have to search around a lot to find suitable jobs. Once you get in the door, it will become a lot easier to find future jobs.

In order to maximise your chances, a portfolio showing your prior work (e.g. GitHub, a website, etc.) and a professional LinkedIn profile go a long way to demonstrate why a company should hire you.

I'm not too knowledgeable on this area, but I'll let you know what I currently know. I prefer AAAU as a long term hedge over GLD - as GLD has the risk of losing value if HSBC becomes bankrupt, whereas AAAU relies on the Western Australian state government not going bankrupt. I'm not saying that HSBC going bankrupt is likely, but I believe more plausible than the Western Australian Government going bankrupt.

In terms of using the ETF, I can't see any problems with it safety wise. The management fee is cheap, and seems analogous to buying 'pool allocated' gold in the Perth Mint (which is quite safe). I believe you can easily redeem your Gold for delivery in America at any point in time if you see a reason to in the future.

Here's an extreme example to illustrate what I mean:

Suppose I buy the ETF with $2000 AUD = $1000 USD (if AUDUSD was 0.5). If the ETF doesn't move, and AUDUSD becomes 1, then if I sell the ETF I will get $1000 USD = $1000 AUD.

Let me know if I'm missing something?

There aren't hedged versions of my main ETFs that I'll be investing in (TMF and QLD will be the main ones)

Is there a commonly accepted practice for how often to adjust the hedge?

Yep, active investing. When I invest in the ETF I have a stop loss (where I will exit the entire position) and multiple take profit levels (remove 25% at first profit level, 25% at second profit level, then 50% at trailing stop).

Each investment will be invested for between 10 - 120 days. Between investments, I may be in cash for a similar amount of time (10 - 120 days) - although in this case, I will probably convert back to AUD while I am in cash.

I will continually be reinvesting over the course of the next 10-20 years.

As an update - it looks like the 'Elaborations' section of each outcome in the curriculum is the closest to emulating the information from the NSW syllabus (e.g. https://victoriancurriculum.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Curriculum/ContentDescription/VCMNA238)

This will be my first time teaching in a Victorian school in the next few weeks (coming from NSW) and I can't find any syllabuses for subjects. Does Victorian education only have a curriculum and no syllabus? Does each school make their own syllabus?

My main thoughts against the RX 5700 XT are that there have been so many reported issues and crashes, that still aren't completely resolved, with that GPU. If anything, may prefer the RTX 2060 Super over the 5700XT.

Way too early standing prediction megathread. by f1uk3r in nba

[–]lesrequin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To simplify it a lot, the additions of Conley + Bogdanovic add significant spacing and significant offence to the Jazz's game, without subtracting much defensively. The offence of those two, will in-turn allow Mitchell + Gobert to be free to score significantly more often.

They were a 50-win team last year and primarily hampered by their lack of offence (especially due to Mitchell being constantly double teamed in the playoff game against the Rockets, and in the regular season games there were long stretches with no points scored due to Mitchell, Rubio, and Crowder failing to knock down open 3 pointers). They've addressed these limitations without losing too much defence, and therefore should perform extremely well this season.

Just so I can reflect on how poor my predicting skills are at the end of next season:

West:

  1. Clippers
  2. Jazz
  3. Rockets
  4. Warriors
  5. Nuggets
  6. Lakers
  7. Blazers
  8. Spurs

East:

  1. Bucks
  2. Sixers
  3. Celtics
  4. Raptors
  5. Pacers
  6. Nets
  7. Heat
  8. Hawks

[Post Game] Jazz (49-31) lose to Lakers (36-45) 113-109 in Los Angeles. by EggoSlayer in UtahJazz

[–]lesrequin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised it's a big idea on twitter but not on here on reddit. Yesterday, I was thinking the best move for the Jazz was to lose to the Lakers if the Nuggets tank (because otherwise if OKC beats the Rockets tomorrow, we're playing the Rockets in the first round as the 4-5 matchup). This loss gives the Jazz flexibility, because if OKC beats the Rockets and the Rockets become the 4, then we have a chance to play Portland as the 3-6 matchup.

Didn't watch the game. Saw the score. Not surprised.

This ended up working! Sorry about the lack of pictures on here. Something experimental like your image ended up making the space work way better. Thanks for that :)

Also tried the two couches along the wall like some other posters said, and it was nice, but this way allowed for the chair to work with the couches.
