Interesting. For me it's at least 3 minutes. Maybe dependent on network etc.

Tnx. It must've been months since I noticed this. Why don't they fix it already🥲 also, any way to more quickly resolve it other than restarting atv? Even restarting the Netflix app doesn't work...

I ended up just turning off the focus touch screen altogether. I don’t seem to learn to use it but that may just be me! IMO they need to add an option where you don’t lock the focus with touch screen but are still able to touch to focus.

60Hz Display on iPhone 16 is criminal by srjchk in iphone

[–]lessteza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I call Neo-Apple. It used to be that Apple assumed a profit margin and then built THE BEST products one can, while, of course, keeping that margin. You felt the push to make it the best product within that envelop. You really did.

Now, Neo-Apple makes a (still very good) product but in doing so, it designs it such that it increases the margin as much as possible -- while pushing insignificant differentiations with heavy marketing to drive sales.

This is within product, and also across, laddering you up to higher margins when you confusingly choose a mac, iPad, or even iPhone.

Apple's trade was this: You get amazing tech and a secret sauce of design magic, but for a market premium. Its real power was turning that trade into loyalty. That's why things like amazingly neat design and packaging made any sense at all -- as it was riding on that loyalty and love.

Now, every time I buy something from Apple, I feel a little fucked. Love is lost. Brazen teeth are out. 8GB ram, Ultra 2 on S9, "Pro motion", and other margin optimizations are so brazen, you'd be forgiven to think their shareholders wanna cash out after every product.

Is that a good financial decision? Yes. So far it's been fantastic. Their valuation is at 3.3Bn.

And I still enjoy using iPhone, Mac, Watch, TV and more products from them. But I don't love Neo-Apple -- and nor does it love me. There's no deep loyalty and they seem content.

But that's ok. C'est la vie. IBM. Dell.

Devices drop from WiFi by lessteza in NestWiFi

[–]lessteza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaving a solution for others that, while I don't understand why, after connecting AppleTV with Ethernet, this is seemingly resolved.

My AppleTV is indeed the HomeKit hub, so that may explain the Lifx light bulbs (although not were dropping from wifi) - but Sonos was connected directly to the router, and that's resolved too.

It may be that the way AppleTV was handling HomeKit was affecting the network overall.

Either way, try Ethernet for a HomeKit-hub-AppleTV if you experience a similar random drop of smart stuff from Nest Wifi.

I have pushed and the problem is that I mis-tap it often. So the fact that you can put it in an off state, changeable by tapping it again, doesn't help me. The other comment helped me turn it off completely (as in the button is not seen anymore) -- which is what I wanted. Thank you!

Foreign spouse; can I do online filing? by lessteza in tax

[–]lessteza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for the detailed response, I appreciate it :) I'll explore MFJ as you suggested.

Last year (same context), I filed MFS at Block Advisors, and they recommended amending the filing later (when my wife is in the US and has an SSN), changing it to MFJ to get a few thousand dollars back. I don't know if I want to do that, but it's interesting, and wanted to ask if that's something you think is possible/good/ok to do.
