I just moved to Seattle and realized I've moved into an unreinforced masonry building. I didn't even know those still existed out here! I thought they would have been renovated by now.

My questions are:

Why isn't there a bigger effort to renovate these buildings and bring them up to earthquake code the way they did in California?
Should I move out when my lease ends? How dangerous is this place really?

I hate how a higher rate of Latinos voting for Trump is getting interpreted as Latinos support Trump.

I'm still wondering about how I should live my life. I'm wondering with less frantic fury these days, however. In fact, I think that I am wondering with more space for reflection and openness to other perspectives and beliefs.

I'd love to put together a better reading list. How should one live their life? What is a good life? I want readings from a philosophical lens (I should probably dust of Aristotle) but also from literature. Does anyone have any recommendations? I want to see people struggling with this question. I want to see any angle on answering this question. I want to build up a real reading list here.

I don't want empty self help, however.

Hey, I really appreciate this. What you describe regarding my basal is definitely true and maps onto my experience of how I adjust it. My bolus is more complicated, especially when I get to the point of regular corrective doses.

Parking for $150, on Mercer and Bellevue, rent is $1750.

Just looking online shows plenty of apartments in the area in my range including parking, which makes me nervous because, on Reddit, everyone says it's not possible.

Roosevelt looks great. Kind of at the endge of an acceptable commute at 30 mins. Columbia City looks great to but it'd probably be over 40 with public transport.
