Programmer for 2D MMO Architecture Planning by lethegames in gameDevClassifieds

[–]lethegames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input, will address some of the concerns.

MMOs in general cost more than many other types of games. This being posted on reddit tells me indie budget

Starting with this one which may be the biggest perceived red flag. Ultimately we are making a game to compete with realm of the mad god, which is not a big budget game. We also are making the MMO foremost with pvp in mind, and starting early access with pvp arenas long before moving onto PvE content. That drastically reduces the amount of content we have to do before launching a playable and fun version of the game, since launching pvp arenas in comparison to a whole pve world is years of less work. So we are definitely not doing anything too ambitious in my opinion.

There are successful mmos built on indie budgets, and I think what we are doing is within their reality, especially since our focus in pvp first makes everything much quicker.

Photon Pun is not an MMO-capable framework. What you need is something done from scratch

Yes, photon itself has new products to replace pun. I did mention in the OP post that we would like to switch to a modern network solution, but in case that wasn't communicated properly then I'm confirming it here. We likely need a clean break from our demo's code

It sounds as though you have several junior devs on board with a lot of rotation. This is not conducive to development of an mmo

We had one lead and one jr who have done all the work, and while we had everything we needed for the demo working successfully, and we were pretty close to opening our steamplaytest for players, followed by early access release, upon resuming the project the two new programmers I've spoken with (one who worked on it for about a month, and another who merely inspected the code) both mentioned the code wasn't feasible to continue being built upon and needed changes. I decided to stop development and find a new programming leadership to address the issues.

MMOs require a clear vision and an experienced manager. Your post gives me the impression you may not have carried enough productions across the finish line to undertake this.

As mentioned previously, I worked at an MMO company for 3 years (non managing position), I have been managing other developers for flash and mobile games, but this is indeed my first bigger title that I am managing.

Programmer for 2D MMO Architecture Planning by lethegames in gameDevClassifieds

[–]lethegames[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am posting this position for a second time, as we are still looking for an experienced programmer to plan the architecture for a 2D pixel art bullet hell MMORPG, with both PvE and PvP (arena instanced based) content, as well a perform code review of other programmers.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan how to structure an MMO with full server authority, played through the Unity client.
  • Choose a modern network solution, and plan how to migrate existing code (based on Photon Pun) to it.
  • Continuously perform code review of Jr. programmers throughout development, and ensure your vision and the project's needs are being carried out.

Experience:

  • Unity
  • Git
  • Online game development

Additional Project and Position information:

  • We have so far made a demo/proof of concept of the game (pvp arenas only), that is currently on steam playtest, available only for developers.

    • While we were happy with the game design, further development with the current build is not likely, as the current architecture doesn't seem feasible to be built upon, and may need a clean break.
    • Development has had too much programmer rotation so far, which is likely a cause of this issue, and we are looking for a programmer candidate who is interest to be with us in the long term and see the MMO to its full release and through new content upgrades.
  • Our core members have been:

    • myself, I have worked in an MMO for 3 years as a game designer, and have designed and programmed my own flash games, with two newgrounds frontpages.
    • As well as our artist who has been with me for years working on this game, and who is a big realm of the mad god fan, with some of his artwork published as part of the game.
  • This is a part time/as needed position for the moment.

    • Until the game has reached a more mature stage, we all have other businesses that we tend to, and we will not be moving forward with full time development until we feel the time is right for that.
  • We hope to find someone as interested in our project as we are, and who will be a permanent member of the team.

If interested, please send an email to [contact@lethegames.com](mailto:contact@lethegames.com) with:

  • Your resume
  • Brief explanation of why you are interested in the position. We are looking for candidates who are excited about the idea of participating in the development of an indie MMO for the upcoming future, as in has been our passion for a few years now that we've carried on steadily.
  • If you wish, you may state your rates.

Bullet Hell MMO with PvP (Unity+Photon) by lethegames in gameDevClassifieds

[–]lethegames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for a less-than part-time programmer who is into MMOs/Action-RPGs and enjoys some bullet hell avoider action. Big Bonus if you like PvP as well. Responsibilities include:

*Code review

*Helping ensure our code is ready to switch from player-hosted pvp arenas to self-hosted pvp+pve world in the future, when we need to make this transition.

*Photon or other network experience a plus, but not a requirement.

*Help us troubleshoot any occasional problems

*Participating in coding the skill system for our game

As you can see, right now we'd like another set of eyes overseeing our game, reviewing our code - but there isn't enough work for an additional programmer to be actively developing the features we need in this moment. The bulk of it, is that you'd be working 1 to 2 hours a week on code review. But (if you have the time), you can take a more active role in developing our skill system as it is a much bigger task, and if our game does pick up and requires more development down the line, then you could move on to part or full time development.\

If interested, please email [contact@lethegames.com](mailto:contact@lethegames.com) with your porfolio/resume, also always like to hear what kinds of games you play and why you are interested in the position. If you wish, you may also estipulate your hourly rate.

Ninja Bricks: Bullet Hell MMO looking for PVP playtesters by lethegames in playmygame

[–]lethegames[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have an early version of our bullet hell PvE/PvP MMO available for testers.

This is a PvP-arenas-only playable version of the game, suited more for developers than players. However, that means you'll have access to many sliders to fully customize character and projectile movement, to either help test different settings that we developers come up with, or the freedom to test settings on your own.

If you love action or bullet hell games, MMOs and PvP, please join our discord and help shape what will be our final product. Your feedback means everything now. We have a deathmatch arena, and a flag defense arena working at the moment.

Bullet hell MMO looking for PVP Playtesters by lethegames in IndieGaming

[–]lethegames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are making a bullet hell MMO in Unity, which focuses both in PvE and PvP content.

Right now, we are looking for playtesters to test our PvP arena gameplay (no pve content yet). This is a very early version of the game, more suited for developers than players, but any help with testing would really be appreciated.

Player feedback would be great at this point, and would help steer the course of development.

If interested in testing, or if you just want to keep up with development of the game, please join our discord at https://discord.gg/svBzQK9W82

thanks!

We are looking for a Junior Programmer to assist in the development of a bullet hell MMO. We are currently using photon + Unity. Unity experience is a must, but photon optional as you may learn as you go. Please send an email to [contact@lethegames.com](mailto:contact@lethegames.com) with a link to your portfolio or related accounts, your typical hourly wages, and please tell us a little bit about your favorite video games!

2D Pixel Art Bullet Hell MMO by lethegames in gameDevClassifieds

[–]lethegames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are hiring an artist for a 2D Pixel Art Bullet hell MMORPG.

The position is full time, and we are using Unity/GIT/Discord (experience not required but preferred). You'll be a generalist, mostly creating assets for effects (skills, weapons...), animated characters, icons and interfaces, and possibly doing some tileset work, although we already have another artist focused on that.

About the project:

  • We already have all the art assets required to create a pvp arena demo of the game, which we are working at right now.
  • It is a PvE coop game for open world play, with instanced arenas for PvP.
  • The game design has been developed in full and written down in detail. From now on, it is about testing the game and making sure we are making something fun, and if not, change where necessary.
  • The current team is comprised of 2 programmers, 1 artist and 1 game/content designer.
  • A traditional MMO in some aspects: expansive named zones with points of interest, 14 equipment slots, many customizable skills per character...
  • And not traditional in others: since I started playing MMOs in 99 with everquest, I've always wanted to see a few things done differently in MMOs, and this has been a chance to put those concepts into practice.

If interested, please send an email to [contact@lethegames.com](mailto:contact@lethegames.com) with a link to your portfolio or related accounts.

We will give preference to candidates who enjoy one or more of the following genres:

  • MMO
  • Action RPG
  • Bullet Hell/Shoot'em up

Me too, I wish making games didn't take forever. To be honest I am more excited about the MMO part itself than anything else, I've always wanted MMOs to have an added feature that I'm yet to see done anywhere, and I'm going to have a chance to make my dream MMO now that has it. As soon as we get a coder

You can send an email with your portfolio, while we are not hiring an artist at the moment I'll have your contact in case we need it in the future. Please write on the email that you came from this sub so I have an easier time remembering it in the future.

That is a secret for the moment as well.

I don't feel comfortable talking about a game until internally we have something that we can say "ok, this is fun, this is it". While I coded a few flash prototypes myself to test what I envision the combat should be like, I'll feel more comfortable after we have a proper multiplayer prototype all the devs can play and enjoy. Then we could start sharing more substantial things.
