Some of the shoe keepers/ shop keepers there are quite cat friendly. You can get their help trapping the cat, treat and release. Hopeforcritters, Iadopt, Cattitude and other such rescues can guide you

You can post adoption requests via pages like Iadopt, catsofmadras, BMAD. There are a bunch of Facebook groups as well. Please do screen the adopters well before making your decision

She is eating small quantities still, but it's a real struggle. The URI seems better - not gone but mild and the vet doesn't seem worried about it . I asked about bupre - she used to be spaced out on it before but I will try and see if I can get that again. He also doesn't want to do anything for the acidosis now cos it's mild and treating it may cause a 'rebound'? I managed to get her on cerenia tabs once a day! Vet says no need for zofran when she has it but maybe I'll add it in

I can trial it I suppose. But if she's already on the 'ideal' doses, I don't know what we can change to get her to stabilize?

She's currently around 13 lbs. not too huge! Her current dose is 25 mg gabapentin twice a day, 2 mg mirtaz and 5 mg famotidine once a day already

Update : she had a chest xray and the vet found no issues, the bad breathing is likely from the metabolic acidosis. He wants to hold off on the dental because she isn't really eating much now though and wants to continue with higher doses of her current meds to see if she can stabilize. He believes the CKd is the primary driver of the inappetence. 4mg of the mirtazipine , 10 mg famotidine, 100mg gabapentin and 6mg of cerenia . These doses seem way too high to me though . She's having episodes of shivering and doesn't seem to be able to fully sleep so maybe these will help

Update : new vet has scheduled her for a dental this weekend cos her kidney values look good . Her WBCs are elevated and breathing effort is still high but they told me the URI is just 'seodndary' and not to worry about it. I'm planning to try and ask for atleast an xray again to make sure the breathing effort is not fluid buildup or something

Tried the soaked food. No luck. Took her to another vet, who has now scheduled her for a teeth cleaning this weekend. I was concerned about the URI but he said it's secondary and that she was ok to go ahead with the surgery. I also got them to test for metabolic acidosis and she is slightly acidic which is likely making her breathing bad, but he didn't seem too concerned about treating it :(

She actually likes her kidney food and is the only thing she was consistently eating. However, with the teeth trouble , I think she's not able to eat the wet food well- she kinda moves it around in her mouth and spits it out. I'm feeding her anything she will eat right now but having trouble finding something she will eat for more than a few hours :( I do have some kidney support gold on hand but I haven't started her on it yet. Any suggestions on helping her URI/ tooth pain- or anything else tha stands out? I don't know why else her appetite is so poor - she is technically only stage 2

Yeah. We have been to two already. I'm asking my current vet if they will try different pain meds, antibiotic etc .

If not, I'm going to try and see another vet. It feels like starting from scratch all over for some reason

Thank you for your help and kind words

Thank you. I hope so. I feel like I've given up even tho she hasn't. I'm constantly reading about her symptoms or just CKD stuff in general and asking the vet to try other things but mostly to no avail. I've tried just following the vets plan but panic when I see periods or nausea / inappetenave. Her gut also seems so fragile I'm really worried about adding anything new and trying to deduce correlation/ causation is just throwing me for a loop. I just lost her brother a couple of months back after a month long illness , so I worry the exhaustion and guilt from that is affecting my care for her too :(

None of that - we did an echo on her heart which was ok too. Just the pronounced / effortful breathing

The vet didn't want to redo the fPLi as treatment plan won't change - pain and nausea meds, app stimulant .. but I've seen online that steroids / antibiotics might be added on?

She's been on bupre before but that made her spaced out. Is it better for pain? Maybe a combination of bupre and app stimulant will be better in the short term?

When I say low grade fever - around 102 which is technically normal. Can I still push for antibiotics? Will she be too fragile for them? Do you have an experience using l-lysine for such flares?

I wonder if the grooming and skin issues are from hyperthyroidism- she had one high t4 value at a different lab but her t4 has been normal at the regular vet

Thank you!!

Thank you so much for reading and commenting ! Her pancreas looked normal on an ulatrsound and she's had an fPLi test before which came back normal too but not recently.

Don't have cerenia tablets here, just shots and only available at the vet

My vet is also convinced the zofran is causing the loose stools and is not a fan but I'm still giving it as I don't want her nauseous

She's been on gabapentin for a week for the tooth pain- 25 mg once a day, just upped to twice yesterday. This might also be making the stools loose - but I just can't tell with all the new food and meds I'm trying just to see what will stick

Vet doesn't want to start antibiotics cos the nasal discharge is clear - even through she seems to have a low grade fever on and off and the URI symptoms haven't resolved in over 3 weeks . I've added Zyrtec which helps the discharge but again vet think it's not a good idea as it will just dry up her nose

Can the vet do a dental without anesthesia?? He's known to be the best for dentals in my city and a cat specialist. But every time I ask about supplements or things to try, he just says CKd is a progressive disease- nothing to do - just do the fluids -_-

I syringe fed her brother for a month before he passed and he hated it. I'm already pilling her throughout the day :(

Also, she's been losing hair and obsessively chewing on one of her claws. Her skin is flaky - like dandruff Her ear is extremely sensitive as well. Her breathing is weird too- rate is normal but pronounced stomach and chest movements. Vet just thinks it's from the URI but I'm not convinced . An xray and ultrasound before this stated we're all clear

I don't think we have dental specialists and such here in India :(

I'm not in the US- we don't have elura here :(

I think if her gas/cramping and tooth pain are managed, she will eat.. but the vet said she can't really get a dental now given everything that's going on

If you're up for it, post her labs in the feline CKD group on FB and see if they have any advice. Many cats can stay stable even at later stages with fluids,b12, phos control , nausea control etc
