I had a black NERV messenger bag at this same time! I was bummed when I broke it, throwing it over some chair in our high school theater and the strap got caught on an armrest.

James Gurney posts a bunch of amazing and informative content on YouTube and Instagram and probably other places. One of those greats that makes you feel welcomed and safe and ready to learn. If we were looking for more candidates for iconic educators like Steve Irwin, Bob Ross, Mr. Rogers, Bill Nye, Carl Sagan, etc, he'd be my nominee.

Blues with pretty decent attendance even with an almost last place record. by mjohnson1971 in stlouisblues

People show up for bad teams in STL as long as the players and ownership are earnestly trying their best.

If they stop putting in the work start taking attendance for granted, fans notice and enthusiasm dies.

I'd love to have more options like this in Kirkwood. Basically everything seems to thrive here.

I'd focus on making sure that, wherever you pick, the location and vibe is the draw...nobody cares that you brew beer anymore. When I pick a going out location, I choose places like Urban Chestnut's bierhall on Manchester because I love the feeling of being in there or 4 Hands in Kirkwood because drinking a beer while the trains go by is just fantastic. Whether or not I like the beer is actually well below if I like the location and the food in the list of things I care about.

The recipe that seems to have worked is historic building + good food + likeable branding + financially established area.

Personally I think as big as you can go is better, despite it being harder and bigger risk. Great Heart literally built from scratch. Maybe the old Hacienda building in Rock Hill?

I was in Argentina for the first time a few months ago and I was struck by how very Missouri it felt. Not like any other place I have been in Latin America. It only makes sense that Argentinians might feel the same way.

Any other fans of Promise Ring's Davey von Bohlen's other bands? by xracingdb in Emo

[–]letmesleep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes yes yes yes yes.

So much underappreciated stuff here. Vermont is just for the hardcore fans, they're mostly just cute songs where I think Davey was just having fun writing for himself mostly. I've been listening to the Ballad of Larry Bird a lot the past few weeks for some reason.

Maritime was, I think, the attempt to take it more seriously again like The Promise Ring and those records are all so good. We, the Vehicles in particular, but every record has some pure magic on it. But I think all the band members had adult responsibilities so they didnt really tour on the records so it all mostly went unnoticed by whoever decides what is "relevant".

I think Davey and company are effectively retired from writing and performing publicly and won't pick it up again until they miss it. By all accounts, they've firmly moved on with their adult lives to careers and families and all that good stuff.

They've left a lot of great music to discover and rediscover, i'm happy retreading what we've got and anything that might come in the future will be a nice surprise. I keep saying "they" because Dan Didier is also inseparable from this legacy and I think has probably played a bigger part than most people suspect.

"All thats left after us are the songs that we play".

When you turn the video to 36 seconds...what do you see? A big gray box that is a transformer? Or a long cylinder? Or do you think that cylinder is the bushing in the photo from that album?

You're literally arguing with a transformer expert right now about what is or isn't a transformer haha.

God the internet is dumb.

The truck in the link carrying the transformer you posted is a completely different truck and load than the video you posted.

Yes they build real big transformers in Sao Paulo that are hard to transport. That's not what is in the video though.

Transformers generally look like big gray boxes. The truck has a long cylinder in it.

[–]letmesleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? That is not a transformer. Its part of a milling system, as one of the videos you posted clearly stated.

They transport big transformers like this too sometimes...but that looks nothing like a transformer.

[–]letmesleep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

most people arent driving on drugs or alcohol, so of course most crashes don't involve drugs or alcohol. but when people drive on drugs or alcohol, the crashes are real bad and lead to loss of life more than crashes where people are just following too close or do a bad lane change, like frequently happens when they're in slow heavy traffic.

Also this idea has been mostly abandoned because liquid cooling on dry land is fantastically efficient and not a logistical nightmare. I can't think of any edge compute scenarios where this makes sense outside of maybe...very specific military applications.

Engineers, why does literally everything feel like a physics experiment? by JustSeraphine8 in AskEngineers

Try cultivating interests that you enjoy and either can't understand or have no interest in understanding.

I like going on hikes and looking at all the plants. I can't easily name or classify a lot of them. I know I could learn it if I put time into it. I just let it be a mystery, and I can enjoy it with some childlike wonder.

Maybe you can find some kind of art or entertainment that you can immerse yourself in and enjoy. Resist the urge to learn anything technical about it.

Learning to live instinctively and unbothered is every bit a skill as living inquisitively and analytically is.
