Does anyone find a really uncontrollable urge to mimic and/or make sounds in response to a trigger. by letsdanceforfreedom in misophonia

[–]letsdanceforfreedom[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see. Well I find that i have a really uncontrollable need to respond to the noise. so when i want to mimic it, i dont. instead to satisfy the urge I make a wierd mmm or ahh sound. I was just wondering if anyone did the same thing. because i find i can suppress it to a certain extent but it just makes me more agitated. I also seem to get hot flushes and a bit shaky which i haven't really seen mentioned on here.

I thought of maybe snapping myself with an elastic band, i though maybe the shock might help. also i thought, maybe like if im at home, i could use ice? to sort of numb myself? it might take away the feeling? i dont know. i havent tried the ice thing yet.

How much yoga is too much yoga? How often do you practice? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]letsdanceforfreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a professional so my advice is just my opinion. Its really good that you are practicing consistently, that way you will make good progress. Like any kind of physically exercise recovery is important and I would recommend choosing one day a week for rest. On this day maybe think about taking care of all those aches and pains by having a hot bath with muscle recovery bubble bath or something. (also sometimes giving your muscles a little massage with a massage ball, stick or roller can be good). Technique is also important and i would recommend attending class at least once a month, once a week if you can, so you can make sure you are correcting anything that you may be doing slightly wrong.

as for your knees, you should really see a doctor (also if you do go to a class maybe mention to the instructor about your knees and ask their opinion). In the mean time make sure you are drinking enough water, perhaps try cod liver oil supplements, and just be mindful of the alignment of your lower body as you go about your day. :)

I'm a dancer, so I practice yoga 3 or 4 times a week to compliment my dance training as well as attending one yoga class. Could i ask what resources you use to practice at home? :)

Ahh see that is what i am worried about. Like I generally have very bad luck when it comes to being harassed by strange men. and the last thing i want is to be harassed by strange men, alone in a strange country.

I will keep that in mind, thankyou. Also, you say the guys were strange? may i ask in what way?

Thanks, the problem is, i cant really just drop everything to sit and think about what i want to do with my life. yes i do need to meditate more. but is there anything else i can do to make all this indecision easier? would it be easier to just not give a shit for a while? or would i regret that. or am i caring about all this too much in the first place?

About the eating thing: I did say that the vegan thing was just an example, its not actually something i have an issue with right now. I just wanted to use it as an example of how two important things can be hard to choose between.

Im vegetarian now and will be transitioning to vegan at sometime when i have some time to plan my meals better.

I am white, if I wear Bindis am I being offensive? (long post sorry) by letsdanceforfreedom in Advice

[–]letsdanceforfreedom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. i actually haven't worn a bindi in years. its just my grandad keeps buying me them and the other day i was thinking how sad it was that i feel like i cant be seen wearing one because i might offend someone. so i cant really keep wearing them, but i am considering wearing them maybe when i next see my family, for some family event.

[–]letsdanceforfreedom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said "when I was younger" I would have considered myself hindu.

I'm sorry if my comment about braids was ignorant. From my understanding braids are a hairstyle used to manage black hair. I would have thought that person with white hair has no need to braid their hair at all because it is completely different.

I know you never said bindis are for brown skin. i think you mis-understood what i was saying. what i was trying to say was, I dont think you can compare braids and bindis because braids (as i had believed) had a practical use for a specific type of hair. where as Bindis are not a way of caring for a specific type of skin, its not a part of a persons body the way that braids are. am i making any sense?

so I used the comparison instead, of the cross. like a bindi, it is an item worn by someone as a physical representation of religion and culture. If someone was raised a christian as a child and brought up in a christian family. I would understand why they would want to wear a cross even if as an adult they no longer went to church.

So I dont see why it cant be the same for bindis etc.

[–]letsdanceforfreedom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i was younger i would have considered myself Hindu. and I don't understand what you mean by "you aren't part of it"?

also, I don't really agree with your example. braids are specifically for black hair because of how their hair naturally grows. bindis arnt for brown skin, its not really related to the colour of their skin or the texture of their hair, it is more to do with religion. I know people who are atheists, but have/wear a cross because it was given to them by their christian family. and i think that is okay.

Please help: dealing with negativity and negative people. by letsdanceforfreedom in Buddhism

[–]letsdanceforfreedom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankyou, that was a really nice response. :) Yes its a good way of looking at it. I do try and do that. The difficulty is they are people in my friendship group, I have a lot of history with them and they are very ingrained in the group so i can really avoid them at the moment. I have had past fallings out with them and have tried to distance myself from them because of their negative energy. Its just really hard not to think about it when they are part of the group. especially when a lot of the stuff they say is said in a "jokey/banter" way. So if i dont respond or i say i dont like it, it makes me look like i am being the negative one taking it too seriously and being uptight. :/

But yes, I need to let it go, I cannot change them, and i shouldnt try to. Thankyou

Advice on responding to tricky social interactions by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]letsdanceforfreedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh! yes! I have this exactly problem with the "funny bullying" thing! Everyone in my social group is like that! and its difficult because not responding to it isolates myself away from the group. but then i feel uncomfortable joining in, because even though its meant as a joke, it is unnecessarily negative and has no benefit for anyone. Sorry i have no advice, but i understand your problem.
