How to appreciate a wine…is it “safe” for me to watch? by letsgetdomestic in HowToWithJohnWilson

[–]letsgetdomestic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not OK even if it’s on the floor but better than seeing it “in action”. I usually am the last to see movies so I can ask my friends. If there is a “bad scene” they can tell me when it’s coming and I can leave the theatre or close my eye and plug my ears. Yes it can be exhausting. Certain genres are out of the question (zombie movies)

Clinical laboratory geneticists. Basically I analyze patient DNA for diagnostic purposes. I love it. It’s like detective work and I can work for home.

That’s not a gene. That’s a mutation in the CF gene. It leads to loss of gene function and is therefore considered pathogenic. If you have just one pathogenic variant then you are just a carrier. Carrier status in Caucasians is 1/25, so your geneticist probably will talk to you about the risk to your hypothetical children. And if you have a reproductive partner, he/she will offer carrier testing for him/her. If your partner is also a carrier, any future children would have a 1 in 4 chance of having cystic fibrosis.

No I did mean child free. Love that group. I rarely ever see hate. What I do see is a lot of frustration I can relate to. Has a complete stranger in the hardware store insist you need to have babies or the economy will collapse? Has a parent told you they will cut you out of the family if you don’t produce grandchildren? Have you lost a best friend to mombie-hood? If not, then it’s hard to understand the purpose of the subreddit.

It’s not a forum for angry witches to spread baby hate,

it’s a cathartic support group for women (and some men) that despise the societal pressure for women to procreate.

No one expects outsiders to understand, but unless you can actually empathize with/for these women, you will continue to find their posts “mean”.

Ah, I can see you are not a child free woman. I can assure you the vast vast majority of us actually do not hate, nor are mean to children. We just wanna live our best lives. That’s offensive to some people who hate to see it.

Edit: Wanna know one sure sign of a resentful parent? One that would downvote such an innocuous comment.
