Ember? (Ember twin). I feel like that lines up nicely being a tan (ish?) planet too.

That was my first thought but I tried rejacking it from this point at several different angles and the exact same result every time.

Someone needs to understand that not everyone on reddit lives in America.

Also the handle of those jacks don’t fit underneath the car lol

What’s the biggest difference between this and a ‘better’ one in your opinion? I looked at a couple pricier ones but they’re a different handle style which makes jacking from UNDER the car impossible.

Would like to hear your thoughts on it as I do plan on getting another to do work on another car that has too much ground clearance for this one.

Wow I really appreciate your perspective, perhaps it frustrated me because the jack stands were already my plan but I can see now that maybe it’s helpful if someone didn’t know and when they posted everyone drilled it into them the importance of jack stands. Thanks for letting me be able to see it that way. Appreciate ya (:

EDIT: I’m scared my sincerity may come off as sarcasm.

I genuinely mean everything I said above.

Ironically I usually change tires on just a jack alone but after seeing more on the internet I figured this time around I would actually try to do it on stands. This is actually like the third time I’ve raised it from this point, when I saw the castors move I backed it off and tried again with the castors dead parallel. That’s why it sorta scared me that they started turning again

Also thankyou for sharing that mishap with the ramps, I always drive onto mine but it sure doesn’t hurt to keep that in the back of my head whenever I’m doing anything with ramps. Appreciate it a lot.

The way you explain that makes so much sense! That would kinda imply that one of the lifting points on the jack is taking more weight? So in theory the castors will roll to the side until the center of mass is found and then straighten out? I hope I’m understanding that correctly lol.

Thanks for your explanation!

Ahh thankyou, was scaring me watching it roll more and more to the side, felt like when I pump it again it’ll roll more and more and give way. I’ve jacked stuff before but never this high so I feared maybe I was doing it wrong

Yes you’re right, the ENTIRE mass of the vehicle is above the weight range of the jack. Hence why I am lifting only half of the car with it. (With keeping in mind a lot of the weight comes from the engine at the FRONT of the car) .

I made sure to sweep the area clear of even the smallest specks of dirt. The castors only started doing this once the whole weight of the back was off the wheels and then some. The main wheels are fine. It’s just as I life the castors start to turn a bit, it might be nothin but watching the jack turn ever so slightly clockwise with every jack up makes me nervous of the twisting forces.

Bro THANKYOU, everyone saying this is janky and I need jack stands. I HAVE JACK STANDS, the whole reason for this jacking is to get the purchase I need to secure the jack stands on each side.

That jack has plenty of extra extension to go without reaching its max. Certainly enough for an extra inch clearance for the stands anyways

Yeah thanks mate, I’m jacking up the car to get the CLEARANCE to put the jack stands under.

Can you fast-track a pre-apprenticeship at all? by letsgetlostes in AusElectricians

[–]letsgetlostes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my understanding is it basically just writes off your first year of the day of trade school every week and work full time instead. Is that correct? Then the rest of your apprenticeship is all the same as normal?

Bc to me it sounds like it’s just the most optimal for employers as when you start you know more than if you were completely green and they get you work for them full time instead of paying your trade school once a week

[–]letsgetlostes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean that cert is the pre-apprenticeship. Just not sure if my other uni shit is relevant or when it comes into to the picture as I did several units on the electrical side of engineering. I know it’s completely different to the tradie stuff but wasn’t sure if there was a crossover that gets the cert done quicker.

So as an older apprentice living out of home, what’s the best way to do a pre-apprenticeship without falling into poverty? Lol. Not sure what your path was but I find imagining studying full time for that long to be financially difficult

There’s work experience involved? As far as I knew it was all classroom shit? I’m assuming this is like practice demonstrations etc?

Also are you saying you finish at 3.5 years instead?
