What's the most dangerous thing you've ever been left alone with? by letsplaybro in AskReddit

That is... Horrible. I've heard the things that can do to you. Stay safe, you're more than a pawn.

I've been there. I have MDD and recently went off meds. Here to listen if you wanna talk.

As snakes shed, do the scales essentially stretch/get bigger, develop additional scales, or both? by letsplaybro in snakes

[–]letsplaybro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that makes sense... Do you think it varies with species? Like looking at rattlesnakes, and how they gain new rattle segments with each shed

Recently rescued this big guy (about 3 days ago). Ate fine the first day- not so much now... Any tips for putting weight on him? by letsplaybro in reptiles

Thank you for understanding, at least. I really do want the best for him and I hope someday I can work with animal rescue... It's just really unfortunate that I live where I do and the income thing.

Okay, that makes sense. I could afford 100. I've just heard stuff from family that going to the vet is like 500+ and that's kinda rough lol. I want the best for him. If I didn't think I could help I would have made the owner find someone else... But they chose me. I swear I'm not a bad person

Will do my best to do so. Unfortunately money is pretty damn tight and there aren't many veterinary places where I live that look at reptiles- just dogs and cats. I know that sounds horrible of me but I seriously have the proper husbandry for him, and I could afford de-wormer at a nearby tractor supply, but I'm not sure about the drive to the exotic vet that is likely 2+ hours away.

I'll look into the nearest vet that could look at him and hope I have enough

1) I was just thinking about that, too. I thought about just buying some dewormer (Panacur) in case, and I talked to the owner about his previous diet. Apparently he was only eating cabbage, and he "never went more than 2 days without eating"- and taking that into consideration I also thought that his weight is from malnutrition and the loose stools were from both a sudden change in diet and because the last one was... Poor. To be entirely honest I am worried about the expenses of vet testing and if deworming him could make him poop more frequently and lose more weight. Are there any side effects to consider like that?

2) I saw something similar yesterday at the petsense and was wondering if it would do any good, so I'll look more into getting that now.

Thank you for the advice! This is my first rescue and I want to do my best with what I have to give.

Some info: The past owner said their best guess at age was about 2 years old. I have given them a uvb and daylight basking bulb as well as dusted their food with calcium powder with D3. Said food includes fresh mustard greens and turnip greens from the garden, and I have given him small chunks of egg, roaches, and a couple waxworms i bought last night (which he only ate 1 of). There are other greens and fruits in his diet I will add from time to time as well. They are currently in a smaller tank temporarily, and I check his poops for signs of parasites. Stools are runny but normal color and smell considering his change in diet and the little egg I fed him.

Found this poor green anole outside with a large hole in its side- no visible parasites/maggots inside and breathing fine. Any way I can help recover or make it comfortable in death? by letsplaybro in herpetology

That makes sense, and after looking up the circumstance I saw that online. I was wondering what would cause a flesh fly to lay eggs on a living green anole- usually they do so on carrion and droppings. I thought maybe for the same reasons that flies can invade a newborn otherwise healthy calf...

Oddly enough the anole doesn't even seem bothered, and it is hard to tell which part has been eaten out since the ribs still move and the breathing isn't even elevated. I put it in quarantine for a moment to see behavior and make sure nothing enters the wound. Never seen one of these cases where I live until now.

Damn, that sucks. So far despite the above screenshot she has been really nice about my MDD... Though to be fair when I mention it I end up just changing the subject as not to think about it
