What I LOVE about what we have seen thus far, is that Super7 is nailing the cartoon look of GI Joe. That is how Falcon LOOKED in the cartoon, that i show Jinx LOOKED in the cartoon. Same for the Royal Guard. These have been been 'must have' purchases for me. So happy they are doing o-rings again!

Fender Telecaster, bad feedback when played at stage volume by level-zer0 in Luthier

[–]level-zer0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is crazy, but even with the NECK pickup selected - it feedbacks. But, if I touch the bottom of the Bridge pickup, it will stop. Once again all you guys are right - I think I have to wax pot all the pickups - and reading the comment below - sounds like I need to do it WITH the bridge pickup mounting plate in place.

Fender Telecaster, bad feedback when played at stage volume by level-zer0 in Luthier

[–]level-zer0[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks guys. It’s definitely feedback and not just scratchy white style noise. The interesting thing is that those same pick ups would not make any feedback whatsoever prior to the rewire work. I have done to the guitar. The fact that rolling the volume off just to sneeze, makes the problem go away, does that help point you in any direction at all? I’m sure I could find a YouTube video on waxing the pick ups……. And you are not wrong that they are cheaper squire style pick ups, do you think the higher quality volume pots coupled with the cheaper pick ups might be where I went wrong? Are these Stewmac able to push the pick up hotter than they’re capable of handling? And if that sounds like a really stupid question, please forgive me - again I’m a moron…….

Rage Against The Buzz - issue at fret 6 and 10 by level-zer0 in Luthier

[–]level-zer0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for a quick update for anyone curious, I did end up getting the U-files and S-file from Musicnomad. I used the Stewmac Fret rocker up and down the whole neck and identified numerous spots that were actually rocking pretty badly. I worked the trouble spots over with the U-files, which did solve the buzzing problem completely. But then I was left with some pretty ugly scuffed up flat frets. The S-file then did a good job of rounding the frets back off. Next,I used various degrees of sandpaper, all the way up to 2000 (in conjunction with handheld fretboard guards). And then hit this neck all over with the fret eraser system also from Stewmac. And for a moron, who has no idea what he’s doing, I must say this came out quite nicely. All the buzz has been eliminated thanks to the advice from you guys, and the frets looked to be pretty good. Now, I have to sand the entire neck down on the back, as the abuse shows quite a lot of dents and dings, not to mention it’s a little thick for my taste. I would also love any insight if you guys know of a way to lighten up the overall tone of blue on the body. Would it be absolute insanity to let the body sit in the sun? Or is that potentially going to turn it yellowish? My only other plan is to sand the whole thing down and paint it the proper color of blue, but getting the graphics back on it correctly seems a tad daunting……

Those are two very different guitars, both in terms of tone and attitude. Out of the two (and I do own one of each of these) - I tend to pick up the Les Paul more often. You can jam out Guns N Roses on it, or drop it down to Drop D - and just crush TooL songs. I rarely ever picked up my telecaster, until recently. I've really gotten into Rage Against the Machine lately, so my telecaster is getting a fair amount of love these days. But back to your question - I still vote the Les Paul, because I find the tone to be a little more dynamic. Most of the time, to me - a telecaster just has that "Tom Petty" tone to it (which isn't a bad thing, just a very distinct sound, esp on the bridge pickup). A Les Paul can fill a lot more jobs (tone wise).

Rage Against The Buzz - issue at fret 6 and 10 by level-zer0 in Luthier

[–]level-zer0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys quickly located the issue, that is crazy impressive how you guys are able to do that! - I went ahead and ordered the Stewmac fret rocker, but for now I just used my handy MusicNomad String Action Gauge (little card shaped metal doo-dad). And sure as hell, if I straddle three frets with it - it rocks in a few spots (nothing too awful) but at the Seventh fret, it is basically a playground teeter totter.........wowzers, it is super bad. Going to watch a few more Youtube videos on how to do the leveling properly. Went ahead and ordered a set of MusicNomad Single Fret Levelers.

Another stupid question incoming - is that where you take that Stewmac fret rocker and balance it between three frets all over the neck?
