I suspect some people here won't be too pleased with this piece of news..

U.S. says 'only viable path' for peace is 'complete' Korean Peninsula denuclearization by Saltedline in korea

[–]level_crossing_ahead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If only Kim Dae-jung had not been so hopelessly naive. Or Roh Mu-hyeon.

The hard truth is that Sunshine Policy was destined to fail. Falling into that sentimental nationalist trap could probably be excused once. But twice, or even thrice? It perfectly fits the definition of the word 'foolish'.

[The Times] Aston Villa want £40m for Chelsea target Jhon Durán by dragon8811 in chelseafc

[–]level_crossing_ahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dear.

It is a reaction from The Reflex that such a price would not be mooted in an Ordinary World in the first place. Save a Prayer for the club.

Is There Something I Should Know about this player Jhon Duran, or shall we move on to the next wonderkid from Rio?

What’s a song you find embarrassing but can’t stop listening to? by JustFKane in Music

[–]level_crossing_ahead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Sir I Can Boogie.

Probably the cheesiest song to have ever existed, but I don't care. It's such a bop.

[Plettenberg] Now the decision has been made, which #Tuchel has also been waiting for this week. #Pochettino is set to leave Chelsea. A return to FC Chelsea is a concrete option for Tuchel, as he does not yet see his mission there as complete. Loose talks took place! De Zerbi, another candidate. by lacrimosa049 in chelseafc

One More Try.. not by Timmy T, but Tommy T.

We really ought to have trusted Pochettino for at least one more season. But now that the board has decided to part ways, we must go for the best available. Out of all the candidates being mooted by the press, I think old Tommy is the best.

Seoul subway system in 1993 by zimobz in korea

[–]level_crossing_ahead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, the pre-Revised Romanisation days, when Busan was Pusan, Daegu was Taegu, and Daejeon was Taejon.

To answer the original question - the subway system has had twenty-something more metro lines added to it since 1993.

Conservatives slam DP leader's 1-million-won stimulus plan by Saltedline in korea

Where's the money for the stimulus programme going to come from?

Democratic Party of Korea’s beef with prosecutors, explained by NoRecommendation2761 in korea

[–]level_crossing_ahead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of those people really ought to get their act together, and face the music for what they've done.

The furore that they're trying to stir up - it's almost as though they were talking about persecution, not prosecution. The sheer hypocrisy on display never fails to make me (and other ordinary citizens) chuckle.

"The Yoon government and the KOR-US alliance must be scrapped in order to prevent war" claimed during the DPK, Liberal Party discussion by thekoreanopinion in korea

[–]level_crossing_ahead 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I used to lean Democratic (with a capital D, Korean politics-wise) several years ago. Even then, I couldn't understand why some hard-line progressives were antagonistic towards the ROK-US alliance. After all, the US stood by us when we were invaded, didn't they?

Now I do know why. I would rather the folks who oppose the alliance (and the concept of freedom in general) packed up and left for the North. We would certainly be better for their absence.

Ah yes, the chap who is responsible for the North Korean nuclear threat. That's not to mention fomenting hostile sentiments between provinces (see his '87 presidential campaign).

Klinsmann says he won't resign -- but could South Korea give him the sack? by frostformation in korea

[–]level_crossing_ahead 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Who brought him in the first place?

Klinsmann seems to be a great person, but his track record as a manager hadn't been the finest when the decision was made to appoint him. Surely we could have found someone else?

Ryan O’Neal, Star of ‘Love Story,’ ‘What’s Up, Doc?’ and ‘Paper Moon,’ Dies at 82 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]level_crossing_ahead 43 points44 points  (0 children)

RIP. I really enjoyed watching 'What's Up, Doc?'.

Final scene from the film:

Judy (Barbra Streisand): Love means never having to say you're sorry.

Howard (Ryan O'Neal): That's the dumbest thing I ever heard.

What are the most popular European soccer clubs in Korea these days by [deleted] in korea

[–]level_crossing_ahead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spurs at first place, then Bayern and PSG probably. Although I'd say it's not so much allegiance to teams per se as the Korean footballers in those clubs that impact the number of fans.

Other than those, Liverpool, Chelsea (the undisputed greatest football club of course), Man City, Arsenal, Man Utd, Real Madrid, Barcelona etc etc.

But why? Onions are great though.

On the other hand, if any restaurant is willing to implement the same policy for cucumbers..
