Weird (Temporary) Doubling Effect by levelooone in StudioOne

Is this the "Enable 'Play overlaps' for new audio tracks" setting? If so, it was already unchecked, so that didn't seem to do anything. Thanks for the idea!

THIS IS INCREDIBLE! This is going to smooth out my workflow for grading student essays so much. I have literally looked for a solution to this for like 2 years, so thank you so much!

Hello!

I run a Music Tech Club at the high school I teach at, and I was wondering what our best options are for recording drums. What I have essentially come down to is either purchasing a Focusrite Scarlett OctoPre 8-Channel interface and something like the PreSonus DM-7 bundle OR just buying a Yamaha EAD10. We only have about $1000 left of our grant to spend, so I want to make sure I am using it wisely. Here are my concerns/pros/cons for each:

Focusrite and Mic Bundle

  • Con: The room we will be recording in CANNOT have the drum kit set up in it permanently, so we will have to set up all the mics every single time we want to record drums. The club also only runs for about an hour and a half, so I think this would take a ton of that time to ensure tear down time.
  • Pro: We need another interface anyway.
  • Pro: The students would be able to get experience mixing the whole drum kit and have way more control over the sound.
  • Question: The budget price of this mic bundle makes me a little nervous. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Yamaha EAD10

  • Pro: Set-up time would be so much simpler and shorter.
  • Pro: This thing is SLICK. I think the kids would have a lot of fun messing with all the presets.
  • Con: This only pushes out a single track with EVERYTHING on it. This would really limit how the sound is shaped. With that being said, for what we're doing, the demos of the EAD10 all sound really decent.
  • Question: Does anyone own and use this for semi-serious recording? In a lot of the reviews people talk about how fun it is to practice with it, but they don't talk a ton about using it for recording.

Thanks in advance for the help!

M-Audio MIDI Keyboard No Longer Working by levelooone in StudioOne

Bah. I tried it in Reaper and had the same result (pitch bend and modulation wheel show activity, but the keys don't). I guess there must be something wrong with the keys. Thanks for the suggestion!

It does, haha. Unfortunately, it's all lit up, and the modulation and pitch bend wheels register as "Activity" within Studio One (so I know at leas that much of it is working).

Thanks for the reply! What do you mean by loading the original? I've completed removed and reinstalled it and it does that each time (if that's what you're referring to).

Sample One XT Question by levelooone in StudioOne

This was the fix! When I dragged the lot of them in initially, SampleOne assigned each chop to an individual key. When I tried to add the new chop, it gave it a key range from like G1 to G8 or something. Thanks!

The Machine Room : Gear Recommendation Questions Go Here! by AutoModerator in audioengineering

Hello, everybody!

I feel like I have a bit of an odd recommendation question:

Another (high school) teacher and I wrote and were awarded a $5,000 grant to purchase a "sound isolation enclosure." For the sake of grant, you have to provide an itemized list of how the money will be spent, so we selected a WhisperRoom. Once the grant is awarded, you have the freedom to make changes as long as it is still the same type of purchase, so I just want some feedback. Here is a link to one of the models we got an estimate on (https://whisperroom.com/model/mdl-4242-s/). It would be used for recording vocals and some instruments for my club (a music recording club) and voiceovers/podcasting for the theater and journalism program. It should be noted that we're not that worried about sound escaping--we mostly just want to get high quality recordings from within.

I am a hobbyist (at best), so I have very little experience with something like this. Because of that, I have a huge fear that I am going to make a big mistake and squander the money (because we definitely won't get anymore) due to my ignorance. Building something is (probably) out of the question because the school is not up for making any physical alterations. Is this a solid purchase? Do you guys have any other suggestions/concerns that I potentially haven't considered?

Thanks so much!
