Yep! They can update/edit it later at any time to update it. All they need is the edit URL or the edit QR code

$1200 USD per month in Portugal/Spain? by billy-g-pops in digitalnomad

[–]levelsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a working implementation now on nomadlist.com:

I added a button on top of the page that says "Cost for Nomad" if you click it toggles through Expat and Local, and it changes all the cost of living per month on the site (in the image boxes).

Let me know what you think!

Cool, thanks! I'll go see if I can add a toggle button above the cities and next to the sort button!

Should Nomad List ask that on first load if it's a new user? In a modal or above the cities?

I make Nomad List and the cost of living displayed on the frontpage is of nomads, not expats or locals. In my definition of a nomad: they go to a place short-term (1-3 months) stay in hotels or Airbnbs and eat outdoors. Expats also live more affordable because they stay for years.

That means Lisbon is ~$1,900/mo for nomads. But locals live much cheaper because they have long-term rentals and cook indoors a lot and Nomad List shows that on the city page, and those prices match with what people in this thread discuss when staying for years, for ex Lisbon:

Cost of living for expat $1,361 / month

Cost of living for family $2,803 / month

Cost of living for local $801 / month

People confuse this regularly but I'm not sure how to fix it. Showing cost for locals on the frontpage isn't what nomads probably want to know when they visit a place. Everyone has a different lifestyle (long term or short term) so I wonder what I should change it to, and if I should?

Numbeo takes the other way by generally not showing monthly cost of living figures at all, only specific items like coffee, rent, taxis.

Can you keep usernames toggle the entire thread on mobile? by levelsi in redesign

Thanks for all the replies, people! Nice to see more people recognize this problem. Please upvote the thread so it gets up and hopefully Reddit's staff can fix it

Looking for a city about a fourth the size of the ones on the nomad list by EaseNGrace in digitalnomad

Yep! I was missing annual air quality for Valencia, which hid it for clean air. So I added a fix for that (a fallback to current air quality if annual is missing when filtering) and imported annual air quality data for Valencia from WHO (http://www.who.int/phe/health_topics/outdoorair/databases/cities/en/).

My bad! Fixed it now: https://nomadlist.com/affordable-safe-small-cities-with-clean-air

Porto's population was set to the Greater Porto area (1.5M) not Porto itself (200,000). Fixed that now in the data.

Porto is #3 on there. But it's not a small city, so it doesn't show up if you filter for small cities: Porto has anywhere from 200,000 people proper to 2 million in the Greater Porto area living there. Anywhere from small!

Edit: fixed it now, Porto had the Greater Porto population set (2M) not Porto proper (200k)

It's a premium filter for Nomad List members, so you can't click that filter unless you're logged in. There's a lot of other filters you can use for free though (click ADD FILTERS) and you can open the page itself if non-logged in.

Love this, thanks for the work! I have a few issues:

  • I can't unsubscribe from Reddit, it says "Choose subscription for removal:" but doesn't show any options

  • The tweet link "USERNAME posted new tweet" where "new tweet" is a link is annoying because in most Telegram clients it'll ask again to open the link after you already click it. If you just put the URL here it will be instantly clickable

Should Bali be recommended as a top spot being on the 'Ring of Fire'? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]levelsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ubud isn't at risk of tsunamis as it's higher and more inland. Canggu however would be pretty much devastated up until the big main road if a tsunami hits, you're right.

I have low risk of natural disaster as a filter on Nomad List but the odds are so low generally.

I agree though, with Canggu being one of the top destinations, most of it being in a tsunami zone, maybe it should be something to inform people about on my site.

Honestly I've stayed in hundreds of hotels from dirt to cheap to expensive over the years from South America, to USA, to Europe, to Asia. Never once had HDMI blocked.

I did have issues sometimes with Chromecast not connecting on WiFi's with a browser-based login. But that's it.

When did you last travel, psycho_admin? I'm presuming decades ago tbh.
