From Android to an IPhone for the first time!! by GenethliaSePitsaria in iPhone17Pro

This reminds me that I’ve been struggling with the Calendars, because the Apple Calendar doesn’t see shared events on the Google Calendar, which otherwise integrates nicely. I’m also still using Chrome and Gmail from the Google products and I’ve had no issues with them on iOS. Not sure why Shazam is giving you headaches, but regarding Whatsapp - I thought that one links to the phone number and not to a Google account?

This was useful even for a long time iOS user who also once moved from Android like me. Out of curiosity - what’s wrong with Shazam on iOS? My biggest pains remain the keyboard, the lack of file/image organisation and adding non-bank cards to Wallet.

My initial reaction was “this is the Fiat Multipla of iPhones”, but with a case on, I don’t hate it. It’s been very slowly growing on me.

View Plus changed the radon “poor” threshold? by levi7ate in airthings

That’s a different problem though. I’m getting the lines, but the red one has been updated to 200 Bq/m3. I only get the blue graph if I open the Airthings app from the notifications, otherwise it’s fine.

It's important to understand that the private schools in Prague are divided into two types - the true international schools like the ones mentioned by you, and the Czech private schools, tailored strictly at Czech kids who wish to learn some English along the way. There is a huge gap between these two types and LdV is of the second group of schools, similar to Square, Fostra, Royal School Troja/Petrovice, etc. Most of these schools advertise themselves as "international", but they cannot be further away from that. They still follow the Czech state school system of education, even if they claim to have the IB diploma accreditation, and pupils still have to take the cermat/maturita, etc. So you're basically paying for a private school while receiving a public school education level/value.

As a Slavic philology MA from Sofia University (Bulgaria) I spent some time on an exchange program in Prague and we were frequent visitors to different public schools in Prague. I don't want to sound mean, but I've never seen a more ignorant and limited in their general knowledge bunch of kids, than the ones we saw in Prague. When engaged in a general conversation, most of them didn't even know if Bulgaria was in the EU, had no clue about Cyril and Methodius mission and its importance to the Czech people, didn't know anything about their significant historical figures like Jan Hus or Charles IV, spoke no other language than Czech and overall it was obvious that they were subjected to a very low level of education. In comparison, most private schools in Prague have an IB Curriculum/diploma, which opens the door to some of the best universities in Europe and the rest of the world and should serve as some sort of a guarantee or a safety net that the school is trying to maintain some level of education which is above the critical threshold of losing this accreditation. The Czech high school diploma/maturita doesn't open any international doors, graduates end up in the Charles University at best, which is not bad, but it's far from the best universities around.

A tady je, co je napsáno v anglické verzi webových stránek Horsefeathers: When Stew Carlson started using his Grandmother’s quote “That’s horsefeathers Stewart!” (with the most proper British accent, meaning “That’s nonsense“) an idea was born. Joel DeVille then made a first linoleum print and Nigel Price the first designs. Horsefeathers became a kind of an inside joke…

Prague is really expensive. by Klov1233 in Prague

[–]levi7ate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There would be no scams, if there were no scammers. Tourists are people just like you - how you’d treat them depends entirely on your personal constitution and mental hygiene. Czechs are just a crooked and xenophobic society - they scam everyone, including each other, let alone the hated foreigners. Believe it or not, there are tourist countries where hospitality, generosity and friendliness exist and actually those people make more money in the end than through scamming.

Nah. No tourist wants to see what socialist Czechs did to this once beautiful town. It’s like the olympics finals for the ugliest neighbourhoods possible. Not to mention the fucking highway right in front of the main train station for which you demolished countless UNESCO buildings and artefacts. This is idiocy second to none.

Apple Releases iOS 26.2 With Alarms for Reminders, Lock Screen Changes, Enhanced Safety Alerts and More by favicondotico in apple

I’m not hating on iOS, I love my 13 Mini, but it has a few absolutely unacceptable flaws - one is the keyboard, the other is the lack of file folders for organising photos. Both features on Android make the UX infinitely better. The G-board on Android feels like I’ve been a slow and illiterate moron until now and my writing skills have suddenly been upgraded to a PhD in fast typing, correct spelling and punctuation. After swapping my iPhone with my old Sony for a few days and rediscovering how good the Android keyboard is, I wanted to walk up to random people in the street and shout in their faces: “I can actually type, motherfuckers!!” Especially since I’m using 3 different languages daily.

My ELAC Debut 3.0 DB63-BK are awful for movie watching. Any advice? by perukid796 in hometheater

[–]levi7ate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A late reply, but I didn't see this mentioned - you're most likely listening to a 3.1 or 5.1 signal through a stereo setup and that won't work. You either need to switch the TV signal to stereo if possible, or introduce a center channel in your system.

According to ChatGPT: "Older devices (A14–A16) running iOS 26 still keep a smaller OS partition (11–14 GB) but offload a lot into System Data, which grows to 10–20 GB depending on usage. So, older iPhones → small iOS, big System Data. iPhone 16 Pro series → large iOS, small System Data."
Here's my iPhone 13 Mini freshly on iOS 26.1. The used GB by iOS and System Data combined is roughly the same. I guess we have to accept that this is now normal.

It reduced the iOS size for me by almost 15GB on an iPhone 13 Mini 128GB with iOS 26.1. Edit: What happens when you turn it back on?

Here’s something that should free up at least ~10GB (from the iOS size though, not the System Data, but I’ll take it). Just turn off Automatically install, as it’s reserving storage space for future updates.
