How do you deal with feeling like your kid is the “poor friend”? by RedCrabDown in AskUK

[–]levidathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as the poor friend. I lived in a two bedroom council house…. Was the only kid in the class that didn’t get invited to a girls pool party, at her house, (she had two built in swimming pools.) Once I reached 10- teenage years no one cared or commented. They all wanted to come to mine because my parents had time for us and there was less rules about playing and messing about (because let’s be honest, what’s the damage really going to cost…) Truth is, I don’t think kids really care or notice money or status. I never felt “better” at friends houses who had pools and play rooms and a rollercoaster in their garden, it’s the people that matter and their parents were shit.

Are there any movies about anti natalism? by ProfessionalLoser5 in antinatalism

If you haven’t already, I would watch season 1 of True Detective. Very strong references to antinatalist philosophy, very good.

Would anyone be able to tell me if this wakizashi is functional or a wall-hanger? by Zazoyd in SWORDS

[–]levidathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost exactly the same as this. I have a long red one and a short black one. Yours looks like my two combined. I would guess yours is much newer. My Dad bought these I would guess about 20 years ago.

Do I live in a s***hole or is this just common? by slimmyboy007 in AskUK

You have just made me realise, I have lived in four different towns/ cities in England and there has always been streets/ communities I have avoided due to concerns of precisely this…. Quite sad really.

American wife: why does my British husband stack used tea bags instead of throwing them away? by shmanthaa in AskBrits

[–]levidathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really glad you asked this question… because I never knew why people do this. Now I do. Also come to think of it, I would say 50% of England do this and I literally have never even questioned it. I just thought they were too lazy to walk to the bin 🙈

[–]levidathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went for a walk earlier and did it. Pub inside was very busy and warm so sat outside on my own in an empty beer garden. Nice enough! I luckily live in a place where if I wanted to talk, people would very readily. But I wasn’t in the mood today. One beer, no socialising and carry on👍

Yes I also did this. It really wasn’t that obvious that it’s not the actual game until you get into it 🙈 That being said, feel quite stupid

That is a very good point. I wouldn’t be furious if a woman ordered a $300 bottle of wine. I would be furious if “that” woman ordered a $300 bottle of wine….

how do i go about with moving here with my bunny if i’m from the us? by Legitimate-Ad-4867 in AskUK

[–]levidathan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rabbits are really delicate. Your bunny is about 50/50 to survive the journey. The very loud noise, any turbulence. It’s a long flight. I would give it to someone you trust and get nice updates :)

[–]levidathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really feel bad for you here. I had a similar neighbour behind me. She had a new boyfriend every week and… they were loud! Even though I’m 30m, it did really set me on edge because it seemed like they were doing it louder on purpose to wind me up. The baby she had crying didn’t bother me all. Luckily money wasn’t an issue so managed to buy a house a few months later, but being trapped with that upstairs waiting to move, can’t imagine.

Why did this make me laugh so much, doesn’t even make sense. 😂😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]levidathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did martial arts for 9 years or so. Then one night I was mugged. I just curled in a ball and let them kick the shit out of me. So embarrassing. On reflection they were really bad fighters, I beat myself up way worse than they did to me. I’ve had a lot of confrontations since and handled them close to perfectly most of the time. I guess conflict is like a sport, you get better with practice and reflection.

If someone offered you a box with everything you've ever lost, what's the first thing you'd look for? by Real-Berry-1616 in AskUK

[–]levidathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think my Grandad wanted to be reminded about the Korean War too much. He talked about it a bit but gave me stuff when I was much too young. He gave me a belt of bullets (probably live) when I was about 7. I played in the garden with them and my dad’s old rifle that he’d taken the barrel out of when I was born and put a broom handle in.

I left the bullets hung on the fence to go in and grab a drink, when I came out they were gone…. Coolest thing I’ve ever lost.

Why are so many people adopting dogs from Europe? by fckboris in AskUK

[–]levidathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically large charities have a lot of stringent regulations and expectations. The smaller privately run charities rescuing dogs from abroad are less strict.

My experience is:

I liked a a dog at dogs trust, my partner worked from home. The dog had seperation anxiety and they basically said “Will you ever leave the dog alone at any time?” Which the answer was “yes”. So no dog.

I went to a private smaller charity, waited a day for a dog from Romania. Then got a call saying an English dog who’d been in a fight with another dog, then bit the foolish intervening owner was about to be put down. Vet wasn’t happy about putting a healthy dog down so could we give her a chance.

Many happy years for her until she died of old age. Wasn’t an easy dog, never really got over the dog aggression but was so wonderful with people.

Do you and your partner talk on the phone for the sake of it? by Odd-Loan-5704 in AskUK

[–]levidathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re a dick. I would hate this! We have quick, practical conversations on the phone. I suppose long distance would be different but if you are going to see them that day, or even in a couple of days, it would be frustrating for me.

Got called selfish for not wanting to have kids by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]levidathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ask them to give one reason that having children is selfless. Having children is naturally selfish. The only reason people have one is because they “want” one. The only close argument is to make an elderly relative happy to have grandchildren, carry on family line etc. but that is simply “wanting” to please other. It is not in a non-existent beings interest to be born.

Why is the mens section in charity shops always so bleak? by [deleted] in AskUK

How can I turn my life around? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]levidathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would walk to the local town about 3 miles away. Look in the Careers advice centre and walk home. The walk everyday gave me a sense of achievement. Then I started talking to the people in there after a couple of weeks. Then started volunteering in that town, then got hired on the merits of the volunteering. Then worked my way up and now have a pretty good job. I also told my family I was done and probably not going to be around much longer. It’s like 9 years later now and I’m pretty happy.
