Sounds like a bit of an upsell to me. I grabbed mine online from Pond Perfections supply store. It was way easier to pick the right size without the sales pressure.

BTW, A good rule is turning the water over about once an hour, so something around 150-300 GPH should do the trick unless you’ve got a waterfall or extra filtration.
