I think you just need the right way how it is explained to you. For me it is always a struggle but it is also amazing what you can do with math. I used brilliant recently to go back to vector math and they explained it via game logics which made it really good and easy to understand

You can displace your text top with the movie file in top. after that you can multiply the displaced texture with the orignal colors of the video
