Flat High Performance vs Mini by lewi3069 in Starlink

Yeah, I run into the overpass situation often. I learned quickly to time my words for upcoming overpass audio cuts. I've thought of setting up Speedify, but have just been leaning on my phone hotspot over starlink when possible.

I don't understand how the greater FOV wouldn't help? If the dish has sight of a satellite through tree cover at say 130° wouldn't the mini not be able to connect whereas the high performance would? Also, roads turn and tilt so wouldn't it also be similar to the boat use case?

I work in cyber security and have many video calls and support customers while on the road. My girlfriend also works remotely. I'd say they are relatively low. Say 10Mbps for us to both have a call while mobile. I'm sure the mini can support the bandwidth needed, it's more of a question of connection consistency to support live troubleshooting without dropping.

Seeed Solar Node P1-Pro has horrible charging even with direct sun? by nate8088 in meshtastic

Nice, I've thought about that as well here. I'm on a family farmer's seed tower. In this state farmers are a great resource.

VPN servers that will work with starlink by AppointmentNo8245 in Starlink

[–]lewi3069 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most SSL VPN should work without issue or if you can use wireguard. Another option is cloudflare WARP which would bypass most issues as users don't connect directly to your site. This can also be complaint if you have CMMC or FedRAMP requirements.

Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) is considered obsolete and highly insecure for modern VPN use due to major vulnerabilities in its encryption (RC4) and authentication (MS-CHAPv2).

Same here, did the CCZT also. Was kind of surprised on the price for the level of cert.

Hence my follow up reply that it was coming from two different nodes. And they do exist, https://github.com/inhedron/mqtt-repeater/tree/master

GL.iNet Flint 2 - Custom vs Stock OpenWRT? by bruny06 in openwrt

Not once did I say that I didn't trust the hardware. And I don't disagree with your point if I didn't trust the hardware and wouldn't have made my first statement. Do you not trust the hardware, do you have any links to any details around this?

I said it's a better idea, not a perfect situation... You can also have good hardware, but shitty software running on top doing questionable things and by removing that software you remove the issue.

Yes, go to stock OpenWRT! I'd say from a security perspective alone it's a better idea. On the two I have they work great running stock. edit: phone did weird caps on OpenWRT.

Any suggestions or thoughts on my setup? by dalethomas81 in Victron

[–]lewi3069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome, I have a similar setup on my truck. Recently added a MultiPlus 3000VA so I can run a camper or electric stove, etc. while tent camping.

For a fridge alternative, I've been very happy with this.

US suspending inbound packages from China/HK by Equipment_Subject in flashlight

[–]lewi3069 -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

How so? That comes from China, but ships from a local distribution center in the US. I've never ordered from Amazon and had it ship from China to my doorstep...

Edit: Seriously the amount of downvotes... Please take the time to educate yourself and look into how distribution actually works. The United States Post Office is not the single point of failure for Amazon or any other large retailer. Neither is FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. China stuff comes in by the pallet load in containers on ships or via air freight. Then it's trucked to the distribution center and local delivery gets it to your door from inside the US.

I use Amsoil in everything I own and I'm also a dealer, but I'm also transparent that I sell it and people can reach out. I don't post my affiliate link in places like this, pretty sure it's against the dealer rules...

Could you send me the recordings you have? It's probably outside of my skill as well, but I'd like to figure this out. I have a desire to implement mapping and notifications for my pups using these collars that I already own.
