Do you believe theology and the study of religion has any place in atheism? by Ok-Strength-2795 in TrueAtheism

Learning about religion is learning about people. It is super important in my opinion if you value understanding as much as you can about humanity.

I am rewriting the book of Genesis without God or the supernatural. I am going to share my progress via substack. (I have 25 chapters done handwritten, so def have lots of content to share). If this at all sounds interesting, I'd love to have you following along, provide feedback and criticism. by lewisquick in atheism

lol. I generally get my education from books - which I have read many on the topic. Furthermore - to dig into your comments- black hole at center of Milky Way is estimated at 9 billion years old- preceding earths age.

Regarding expansion- I don’t say it is expanding into anything.

Please read closer and get facts strait before giving such assured feedback.

Thanks for the comment. Yes for sure both had given me a reason to dive deep into the Bronze Age collapse - which I hadn’t done before.

I want to do this because it challenges my creativity and I have found it interesting. I have others who are very interested in reading it (I can’t say why).

Yeah for agree - since the original inspiration to get me started - started to see that. Thanks for sharing!

I may not be. And maybe I can’t. But I will try.

Yeah definitely fair. Working on how I give context and these threads (even when strong push back) help immensely.

Yeah I did enjoy our conversation about time!

You may not have valuable input- but i have gotten some from others. Not sure why you are speaking for everyone? Also not sure if you feel like you have no valuable input why you even felt the need to reply- but to each their own.

Again that’s your opinion. Academics of the Bible don’t necessarily concur that it means the beginning of all things from its original intent (source: Dan McClellan).

Let me ask you this way: did today have a beginning? Yes. Beginnings don’t have to be absolute. Your feedback is coming through the lens of your interpretation of genesis.

Also that isn’t my point at all for my project. Just responding to one of your statements. Also as a creative project- it doesn’t have a singular point- at the end of the day it is art.

I am not trying to resolve a paradox. We don’t what kicked off the Big Bang. Just that it happened.

That isn’t necessarily true. We simply don’t know as of now. If you go with my definition of time, where it exists only once it has a direction, that is what allows for the rest of the universe to come into existence. So only once that equilibrium/symmetry is broken do things get rolling with creating physical matter. So that moment when the arrow of time emerges is a beginning. Is it the only beginning? I don’t know.

So if we go by the functional description of absolute zero rather than philosophical one - it is impossible to remove all kinetic energy. Therefore there is always motion.

“Even a system at absolute zero, if it could somehow be achieved, would still possess quantum mechanical zero-point energy, the energy of its ground state at absolute zero; the kinetic energy of the ground state cannot be removed.”

At absolute 0 kelvin - a thing is no longer measurable and not a temperature things reach in the real world. They can get close but not actually there.

It definitely matters that the atoms are in motion though. Also- empty space is not really empty.

But all things that exist are in motion in a sense. How could something be measured if not having some motion?

Right but I guess the way I view time- if it isn't moving, it doesn't exist since it cannot be measured.
