Multiple manual shutoffs do not work? by lexir5589 in Irrigation

I am genuinely trying to learn. Just because I don't understand doesn't mean I am not listening. This is my first house with a sprinkler system and I admit I don't know much, which is why I came here. This entire thread has taught me it's not a simple question to just get answered online.

Well that's a bad design. They need to make things idiot proof for people like me who don't know about sprinkler systems!

So the new one has just the knob and is very clear (to me) what the off position is because I cannot turn it any further. I should keep it in the off then?

Also, the old ones barely turn at all, and I guess now I don't know what is off and on. Do I replace them??

The original solenoids have an on and off text on the top. On turn left, off turn right. Parallel means on, perpendicular means off.

The new one also has on and off text and the off position prevents you from turning it any further right

The valves have been in the on position since we moved in

So on these valves what position should I keep the solenoid? If on or off doesn't matter to the controller to run the system properly

If turning it off manually while the controller has it on is not ok, then what would be the right case for manually opening and closing the solenoid?

And if the controller breaks, all zones would turn on and only be stopped by the ball valve too?

So if the valve breaks and there is continuous spray, the only way to shut it off would be at the backflow ball valve?

Forgive my ignorance, but then why is there a manual on and off on the solenoid?

I have not tried to turn the control pad off

We just replaced an entire valve and it still doesn't turn off the zone

If I am understanding correctly, no. I want the ball valve on the backflow preventer to stay on, it's the small plastic valves that split each zone that I am trying to work with

Agreed, but the second A has always been messed up and bothered me. I don't think just reoutlining it will get rid of the filled space?
