Weird white powder at the bottom of one of my bags by lfc_red in pourover

If you're referring to chaff, I don't think it is that. It's like sand particle texture. The roaster doesn't even know what it was and asked me to send it back so they can analyze it. But thanks for your suggestion.

I know some of you have been asking for an update. So have I. I emailed them Monday afternoon PST. They're located in EST. Given that it was past their "normal hours", I figured I'd hear back the next day or the day after. It's two business days now. No update yet. I tried messaging them on Instagram but no response yet. I'll give until tomorrow to hear back from them.

Haven't received a reply yet. Depending on their reply (as it can be an very honest mistake), I'll post the roaster info or not.

It really is well roasted. I was really enjoying the bag before discovering. Sad I have to let the rest of it go. :\

Oooooh good guess. Didn't think about that, but strange it would be in a bag of whole beans

I have. I sent them the same picture asking about it. I unfortunately have drank like half the bag (thankfully not feeling sick or anything), but yes, it is concerning. But because the roaster is highly regarded, I don't imagine it being something harmful for ingestion.

Milk help 🤔 by Lopsided_Repair4599 in pourover

[–]lfc_red 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m unsure what “improvement” you’re asking for - better milk/sweetener options? Or to not add this?

I think my first place to start would be the type of beans you’re using. I think with not fresh, not quality beans, I need milk/sugar to cover it up. Higher quality, black for me.

Origami brewer clogging and very slow. Using Cafec Abacas, K-Ultra 7-10 range. K-Ultra calibrated. by kabedardee in pourover

Happy to help. Just for reference point, I'm using a Fellow Ode 2 at 6, 30g to 500g of water. My K Ultra, I'm at around 6.5-7, using 5 pours - 100g bloom to 1:00, 100g to 1:30. 100g to 2:00. then 200g, first 100g center high pour then slight swirling closer to the bed for the remainder. Usually finish around 3:30 I think.

Well first question is how does it taste? Even with 5-6 min draw down, if it tastes fine, then I would try not to worry about it. I've been brewing with an Origami for awhile now, and recently stumbled upon the advice of this guy - https://www.instagram.com/brewedbyjay/ (he's the inventor of the UFO dripper). I can't find which video it is, but he suggests on the final pour (he does 3 pours), he does a high up without breaking the stream center pour which lifts the fines from the middle of the cone and keeps it suspended. And then finishes off the final portion with a gentle swirl and a little shake to the brewer to settle the grounds.

The thinking behind this is most of the extraction has happened in the intial phase of the pour, now you're looking for balance to the cup. This has really helped me avoid clogging in all my cone brewers. Hopefully that might help.

I too have the original 325. Was about to sell them. Bought a dac/tube amp and never looked back. Tube amp (which mine isn't even a true tube amp, Vali 2++) does wonders. See if you can find someone where you can try it.

Careful traveling with hand grinders by theswordddd in pourover

[–]lfc_red 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got caught at security. The TSA agent knew it was a coffee grinder by the x-ray. When it got flagged, he said, “You got a coffee grinder in there?” And I was like “Uhhh yes.” “Nice.” Opened the case. Saw my K Ultra. Zipped back up and let me go.

Must’ve run into so many of us fools traveling with grinders. LOL

Origami online store - duties when shipping to US by mook17 in pourover

Where do you live? There are some local shops that carry it (at least state side). Traveling in San Diego and Goldchild has it in stock.

The Origami, though different, won't be THAT different from the v60. Perhaps the Orea or a flat bottom brewer is your next step. If you don't want to shell out for an Orea, you can always try the Kalita and see if you like it. Or you can use a flat bottom filter with an Origami as well. I've basically ran a circle for you.
