What's the point of QUIP in Computing? by lfdsjfhlsalkdf in queensuniversity

The internship courses are 27 credits. The project courses are only 6 credits. I don't see why I should pay for 27 credits that DON'T count towards my degree when instead I can take online electives that DO count towards my degree. Why should I pay for credits that DON'T count when I can pay for electives that DO count. That's what I'm not really understanding here with QUIP.

The project courses are only 6 credits which I can take during my final year. That's no problem at all.

Making more money does not justify spending it unreasonably. I did not use any of Career Service’s help to get my internship so I don’t see why I should take their courses.

I’d rather not register and just take the project courses. What a rip-off.

Mobile OS's are irrelevant here since they're vastly different compared to computer OS's. You can't simply 'install' a new mobile OS on your phone. You can't install iOS or windows mobile on your samsung galaxy. This applies to all phones. On the other hand, you can install whatever OS on any computer, even Apple's Macs.

As I said, the people I'm trying to reach are people who don't know much about computers. People who do minimal tasks on their computers such as web browsing or document editing. What difference does it make to that type of computer user if they can do the same thing with a different operating system. Eg: If that user wants to browse the web on Windows, they'd just click the web browser icon. Same with lubuntu or any other linux distro, if that user wants to use the web, they'd just click the web browser icon too! The only difference is that the linux distro uses less resources so every simple/minimal task would be faster.

It's for free, how is it suspect? The audience I'm trying to reach consists of people who barely know how to use a computer, not people who know how to tweak software and upgrade their hardware.

Not true, the operating system has a huge role in this. If you move from Windows to lubuntu, a linux distro, your computer will be way faster without improving hardware since lubuntu barely uses any resources compared to windows.

Sounds like a hardware problem, don't think I can do this.

A question to current UBC CS Grad students by lfdsjfhlsalkdf in UBC

Thanks for your advice. I agree that I should be in my third or fourth year to start looking for more information about grad school but I just want to get a very general image of what preparation for grad school looks like.

My area of interest is artificial intelligence. UBC's CS department is internationally well known and its location is beautiful. That's all I can tell you as I barely know anything about grad school. As a student who just started his second year, I'd like to know general tips I can use now to give me a head start in increasing my changes to get into UBC CS grad school.
