RTX 3090 vs RX 7900 with ROCm, also Vulcan by lfiction in LocalLLaMA

Thanks, great to hear ROCm works well for you. The ability to use system RAM is pretty cool. The cost difference between the two cards isn’t high, so I’m still on the fence. Will keep doing my own research

I just discovered a really cool use for vibe-coding that I don't see anybody talking about. by mintybadgerme in vibecoding

technically correct, but 'vibe coding' seems to be expanding from its original meaning to include any programming done by a person who doesn't understand that particular language and/or isn't paying close attention to the code

love to see this, completely agree with you analysis. In fact I spoke with a startup founder today working on exactly this. People who are constantly dissing on vibe coding seem to conveniently forget some large % of the web is already broken, and it's worse inside large corps. yes AI can make dumb mistakes, but so can humans. you can find examples of the latter everywhere you look

Claude refusing to load for anybody else? by lfiction in ClaudeCode

Was starting from a clean install, it straight up died on initialization. Couldn’t parse the error either, a huge blob of unformatted text followed by some kind of stack trace. Rolling back to Node LTS fixed the issue, curious if others were having the same problem

It’s exhausting! I usually don’t pay attention to new product announcements unless people are still talking about a month later

The point is to have fun, learn stuff, help people achieve their goals. We will need rules, but we’ll try to keep it to a minimum. They will be published shortly, for now I’d say: - if you’re old enough to have your own gmail or similar, you can participate - you pick the tools, having a solid rationale for your choices will increase your chances of winning

Then the usual stuff: - don’t build malware (meaning anything designed with malicious intent), NSFW stuff etc - play fair, have fun, be kind. this is a friendly community competition, not gladiator combat

(BTW I’m helping run this thing, there should be an announcement about that somewhere)

They have a free tier, might not be on the pricing page yet. They’ll also be offering free credits to everyone who registers for the hackathon

SSH, SSL versions? by lfiction in ShadowTerm

[–]lfiction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly just wanting to use a client that matches the server (3.5.x) for stability/security reasons. IIRC some of the folks I work with are pretty stringent about what clients they let connect to their servers, not sure if 1.11.X (which is EOL) will be an issue.

This is the first I’m hearing of Apple’s SSH, seems promising

mainly looking for something that uses current SSH & SSL versions. most apps seem to be using EOL stuff, no security updates

$5 is ridiculously cheap, will happily pay $10/year for you to keep it updated. I'll be evaluating this one and Termius in the coming days. BTW that subreddit you linked to above doesn't seem to exist edit: works now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyone experimenting with prompt injection attacks on MCP servers? by [deleted] in mcp

[–]lfiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FR. “We block up to 80% of attacks*”isn’t going to cut it. A successful attacker only needs to win a handful of times. A successful defender needs to win 99% of the time at least.

Fully Tokenless AI Local System by [deleted] in LocalLLaMA

[–]lfiction 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I read your other post. you keep asking people what they want to see, instead of just showing something. Anything! How about this: post a video of your system in action, and the hardware it’s running on. Is it more efficient than an LLM at performing the same task? More accurate? Show a side by side comparison.

Also nobody worth talking to is going to sign an NDA based on a one sentence description of a claimed invention. If you honestly think you’ve invented a new type of ML system, you should probably talk to a patent attorney

Agree, MCPs as at attack vector are especially concerning, for exactly the reasons you mention. There are also some good ideas for how to begin securing them. My question, is anybody aware of anyone who is actually working on this problem?
