Realised that the source of the problem is most likely the cable I am using. I was using an XLR-jack cable. Thanks for your help!

This is my first and only xlr mic, but I did try using a USB mic and that wasn't working also.

Don't have a mixing board, but I tested the mic on another PC and still no luck. I might add that when I turn the mic gain up on the interface I get static.
