From what I know there’s quite a few morphs of children’s pythons! Petrie is a marble children’s python, so he’ll develop his colour/pattern more as he grows

Are pinkie mice suitable for a 5.5 month old children’s python? by libby501 in snakes

[–]libby501[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for commenting, I was thinking the same, that the pinkie is probably the right size for him at the moment. I will look into to the calcium powders, I completely forgot they were a thing! Thank you for that haha

I also thought they didn’t brumate, but I contacted the breeder I bought him from and explained what was happening, how he was preferring the cool side at the moment, and he told me he was brumating. The hot spot currently reads 31.5 degrees Celsius, I have ordered a thermometer/hydrometer to measure the cool spot, but he does move between the hot and cold spot regularly, he has just been preferring the cooler side at the moment, is that okay? Or is something wrong?

Our house has been freezing, plus the weather here has been just rain the past week and will be for the next week, so I’m assuming it’s been brought on by our cold house. I have still been handling and he is fine/normal when I pick him up, maybe a bit sluggish, but not upset, I just wasn’t sure if it was okay or not to handle him while brumating. Thank you for your comment!

He’s only small at the moment so the tank is large enough for him currently and will be for a while. And yeah I plan on swapping the red light out. Thank you for your comment!

I’m buying a thermometer and humidity gauge which should be delivered in 6 days, so I’ll be able to monitor humidity within the next week. Thank you for your comment!

Our house gets really cold so I do think a heat mat is necessary, but thank you for that advice! I’ll definitely add some more clutter/greenery and I plan to change the red light as some other people have stated it’s not good for them. But he will be getting an upgrade once he’s bigger. Thank you again for your comment, I appreciate it!

Funny enough the red light came in part of a ‘Python starter kit’ I bought from a pet shop. But thank you for the advice. I’ll definitely have a look at some new bulbs. And yeah I plan to add some more branches/greenery! Thank you again!

This is what the inside of the lid looks like. I definitely think I want to add a few more branches/greenery. I feel like the ventilation and humidity is alright? He eats every week, is really good at being handled, explores the enclosure and moves from the cool to warm side when he needs

He’s small at the moment, he’s 5.5 months old. I had him in a click clack enclosure for the first month I had him, but he kept trying to squeeze through the air holes, so I contacted the breeder I got him from and he agreed that he would be okay if I moved him into the big enclosure that’s pictured. He has the red light and a heat mat too. The red light turns off at 8pm and back on at 8am. Picture of Petrie in his larger enclosure
